The Escort Passport 8500 is even better but it doesn't have those arrows. I admit those arrows are the best, they saved my ass in TX when I was going 135 in a 65.
Best Detector that I have owned!!
Most sensitive - better than all the Escort/Passport models I've owned(including the 8500)
The directional arrows are fantastic and also the rear radar receiver(all other portable detectors rely on the radar waves reflecting off an object in front of you)
I have the Passport Escort 8500, and I love it. I was driving next to my friend with a V1 down I-10 to do my own little test b/w the 2 radar detectors. The escort had a little better range a few times. No more than a second though. K and Ka are the two bands you have to worry about, so if you see it comes on, who cares which direction it's coming from. I'm slowing down. If the band stays on for a while and slowly gets stronger, the cop is probably coming up from behind. If it goes off the wall really fast, the cop is more than likely up ahead. If it says Laser, you my friend are probably SOL. The escort 8500 has the custom settings to turn off the useless bands like X-band.
They are both very good radars with the best range on the market. The Escort will save you a little money, but it still costs more than the rest. The question is arrows or no arrows. If you have a fast car, you should get one, unless you have some goddly self control to not speed. How many of you could honestly put cruze control on 70mph from Houston to San Antonio? 2.5 hours of straight, nothing to look at, boring road. I DON'T THINK SO. It's nice catching a state trooper over 1.4 miles ahead when I'm doing a little over the speed limit.
