I know the diesel will out tow the V10. My actual question is will I be happing with the towing capability of a '08 V10 compared to my slightly modded '02 7.3.

I am looking at getting a new F250 crew cab and I can save nearly $7K by getting the V10. I have driven the V10 and while it is powerfull it does not have the power my diesel does. However with the deals Ford has right now and me being in need of a crew cab I would be looking at around $100 a month savings for the next 6 years.

If I bought the V10 and immediately installed an exhaust, CAI, and had it custom tuned, would it pull my open trailer with my Cobra on it as well as my diesel? Guys with V10 experience would be a big help in providing some info.

A tune for a V10 does wonders. I think you'll be happy, especially for just having an 08 v. 02. Make sure you get 4.30 gears. If you get an auto the 5R110W blows the 4R100 out of the water.

I had a 06 F350 DRW 4x2 with the V10 & 4.30 gear and pull a 48' closed gooseneck trailer with to stangs and stock approx 17000#,the V10 did it with no problem,I now have a 06 F350 DRW 4x4 with the 6L diesel and pulling the same same trailer the big difference is that the diesel does not downshift all the time when going up hills, the V10 would shift and rev at 5000rpm on steep grades and also downshift on highway overpasses. The fuel milage averages out to about 3.5 miles per gallon more with the diesel although diesel fuel is more expensive than gas up here in canada.

After driving a V10, I went with the 6.4 diesel. It just makes more power and is easier to get more power from if I want it. Plus it came with a 100K mile warranty.

What kind of terrain were you on and what speeds where you running? What gear did it mostly pull in?

Mostly highway 200 -800 mile runs and I did exactly the same routes with both trucks so the comparison is real world.I do tend to drive a little fast 70-80 mph on cruise control.

The V10 will tow your single car no problem, period. the 6.4 will do it better, but not by alot. Now with a 275hp exetreme tune from spartan and a DPF delete, you could bury the speedo with the car in tow. I'm sure of it.

Yeh serious they make some mad heat even with the dpf delete. The tuning for the 6.4 is not spot on yet either. They seem pretty sensitive to any changes.

i bought my Excursion last year at about this time with 63K on it. now i have 165K on it. iv been to IN twice, michigan once, MD, TN, KY, OH, & SC 30 or 40 times, the best iv done is 19mpg @ 70mph. each time i went to the above named state iv had a flat bed or enclosed car trailer. it seems like iv gotten better mileage pulling then without. maybe its just me, iv had 0 problems with the V-10 only are K&N Filter and Flowmaster Exhaust. Good Luck
