I just had ford replace my transmission. 4th gear was grinding. They said the fork was bent. It was all under warranty. Anyway, is there any need to go easy on it for a little bit? and If so, how long?

There is no break-in with the tranny.
Never heard of this either, but you could put in some nice GM syncromesh atf :rockon:
