I've got what I thought was right, the same tool as used on old 5.0's fuel lines. But it won't get in past the little lip and the part that should go into the fitting is too thick. I picked up a metal one that scissors and it also won't get past the lip and looks too thick to get in between the fittings.

What the heck do I need? Someone post or email me a picture please. Or instructions.

You need one made for the trans (Ford Transmission line disconnect tool), The one you are using sounds like a fuel line disconnect tool. It won't work. You can buy a set of trans line disconnect tools from Napa, or just the one size you need. I'm sure Autozone and Pep boys have then too.

Mine is Assenmacher Specialty Tools #8023. These tools are normally color coded, orange is the one you want.

I used the Lisle 39960 tool, was able to find them at pep boys, they arent the best but they did work.

If you have some time get the OTC Tools 6593, much better.

I tried for a couple hours to make my own tool, aint gonna happen with those connectors..
