I went ahead and bought enough to replace my fixtures with 4' bulbs. I will be eliminating the ballast. Now I have to find some 8' LEDs that do not cost an arm and a leg. I only need 4 of them because I have two fixtures with 8' bulbs (double).
They are more expensive but they do last a lot longer.

Does anyone have experience with these? I was looking a then because they're really shallow. And it looks like you can get a lot of coverage with only one wire hook up. Which it was I need due to the "professional" wiring that was done in my garage.

Yup. Removed the ballasts and wired 120V to the tombstones for the type of tubes I bought. Huge difference in light quality and quantity. As a bonus, mine don't attract bugs like my old flourescents did when I'd have the garage door open on summer nights.
