After a lot of reading and gathering basic parts my project is finally underway. I have been around cars and trucks my whole life but I am still learning a lot about the specifics in engine building. I have become a big fan of built, not bought. So this is a huge hands on learning process for me so if you guys can bear with me lol..This will be my second 03/04 cobra, only I learned my lesson the first time. If you have the time, funds, and patience... build the motor first. As much as I want to get back behind the wheel I believe the smarter route for me is to build to my specs, over time, and then drop her in a terminator when ready. So here's the scoop..

93 Teksid mk8 block (stock bore)
03 Cobra crank
03 Manley H beam svt rods
(Leaning towards JE pistons)
Arp mains and sides

I had actually started this project a few months ago with a 96 teksid mk8 block but we determined a pre existing cylinder chip would need a complete resleeve. I had the opportunity to buy another block locally at a good price so It made more since to buy the second block for half the price of a single cylinder resleeve. So now I have an extra teksid, not a big deal.

So #2 is at the shop for wash, inspection, and line hone. The crank will also be recieving Ed's crank snout mod.

My plan for this build is also somewhat of an experiment. I want to run an 11:1cr (e85)with a ported eaton @15-17psi with custom cams from Todd Warren (na_svt) I understand this has been done before but seems to be a road less traveled. I really want to see if I can hit 650hp on an eaton powered 4.6. I have also had a few breif conversations with Todd about running 99/01 heads with a complete valve job and possibly some p&p. Going to cross that bridge when we get there depending on the available 03-05 heads available at the time. Trying not to get too ahead of myself, I will post pictures and try to keep this updated as I go...

Thanks fellas feel free to chime in with advice/recommendations/prayers! The build is slowly turning into what may be a budget build. So far I've got about $500 invested in two teksid blocks, 03 crank, svt manley rods, and arp mains. Although the car will be married to e85, i just want to see how far into the 600s we can get with the eaton. For the price of a m112s these days it will be a fun experiment before we switch to a better blower!

It will be kindof a pina to get dialed in i feel like. Can you recommend some good tuners for this application? High CR+medium boist (15-17psi) and possibly N2O. Was thinking Bob kurgan and using his spec'd cams aswell. My head hurts, seeing torque specs and part numbers in my sleep!

How did you manage to get all of that for so cheap??!!
Patience Rich! Lol.. no i did some trading of a few items that were of little to no worth to someone who wanted it regardless. I found an 03 cobra shortblock .30 at a junk yard and harvested the crank, rods, and forged pistons for $600. Sold the pistons as is for a little cash back. Picked up a set of mains and side bolts for $200. Its all somewhere between $500-600 give or take. I had to drop $150 on my second teksid last week. Yes I will admit that some parts are used, but I have tried to purchase parts that have proven themselves over time. If they fail, it will be 100% on me

Nice work. I can't believe you found an 03 motor in the junk yard. I love the budget idea. I am always working on a budget.

I think most of us try to be! Honestly i started by reading forums and educating myself as to which parts were in which cars. Casting numbers, casting numbers, casting numbers!! I almost pulled the trigger on a $150 cobra crank that needed a turn, but I just didnt want to chance it, then have to chance it playing hell finding bearings. I just got lucky.

I will have to admit, building the motor before the car has already been rewarding. I can take the time to do the research on each item I need as we get to it. The knowledge you gain in the meantime is unbelievable. Then once you have made a decision you can start shopping around. It takes the stress out of getting turn key by the end of the weekend.

Subbing. This is going to be an interesting build for sure. Sounds like you got a good hand/head on everything so I think all will go well for you. Keep us updated.

Today we are working on deburring and polishing in the crankcase on #1. This process involves extracting any leftover machine flash from the casting process. This will ensure no leftover metal can make its way into the oiling system and produce a catastrophic failure. We are also paying close attention to the window area of the mains by removing sharp edges that can cause stress fractures under heavy load. A very time consuming project, but cheap insurance
