I may have screwed up with the 4.10 gear install. I calculated my trap speed and it is slower than I thought with a 28 inch tall tire. My axle is laying on my shop floor. Hopefully I will get it in this weekend and I can do some measuring.

I figure I could run at least a 29 inch tall tire. I come up with 131 trap in fourth at 6200 (stock bottom end with a 3.6 KB) which I think is too slow. It may be a good combo for an 1/8 but I'm not sure about a 1/4. Jegs lists Hoosiers 29.5 inch tall tire with a 96 inch circumference. I come up with 93" or that tire is actually 30.5 in diameter. A 30.5 tall tire would give me a 137 trap speed which I think would be reasonable for a full weight GT500 around 20 psi.

Anybody know what the maximum tire height we can run and sectional width? If I can get a 32" on it would it run a good time as opposed to a 30". I have the Steeda sway bar relocation brackets so I can run a 15".

Any help appreciated. I hope to be on a track in 4-5 weeks. It's been fall of 2005 when I sold my 2003 Cobra the last time I made a pass.

Thanks

The Cobra Jets run 30's. I don't know if anything bigger will fit.

I'm running 4.10's and 28's, and should be into the 130's trap speed. But I'll be running the RPM's a little higher than you. I know it's risky on these motors, but honestly I'm not real worried about it.

I run 4.10s and 28" stiffwall slicks. 750 rwhp.

6500 rpm at the stripe.

136-139 mph depending on the weather.

The Mickey stiffwall grows approximately 1" @ 130mph.

I'm at 6700 rpm on 28" drag radials because they don't grow.

Remember, a taller tire will kill your short times (as well as trap) unless you have a metric bunch of power to get them moving. I "almost" went with a 29" Goodyear this season but if they'd grown much I'd be at a 30!

Calculated traps are under the assumption that you have enough beans in there to make that happen in a quarter mile.

I went to Hoosier's website. Their 29.5 x 11.5 x 15 is listed as 30.5" in height with a 96" circumference. There other tires are all the same height as the tire designation.

If I go with a 29 I will make sure it is 29. I'll have to choose between 28" and 29".

I'd hate to blow up my motor but I plan on building another motor in the next couple of years. I'm more worried about breaking the motor and oil putting me into the wall.

Thanks,
Yeller
