my little brother uses some kind of led bulb on his car in the reverse lights becuase his tints too dark and they make it clear as day when they are lit up. ill find out what kind they are when i see him next

For your tail lights make sure you use red leds. Leds only produce light in a very narrow spectrum. A white light led has very little red spectrum light so if you put it behind a red filter (red lens) it will appear very dim as most of the light produced is white and there for filtered out by the lens. Found this out by messing around with my third brake light and did some reading.
Which side the paint is on does not matter, but I have not tried different bulbs in tinted housings yet. The red leds will appear brighter because the red lense will filter less light out.
