Some High Res Flood Pics From Chicago area

Was bored and i wanted to get some pics of the damage the rain has done.

While I was taking pics at one of the intersections a tow truck driver passed through and asked me if I wanted a ride to the otherside of the intersection.....


Riding on the flatbed of the tow truck as he backed across the intersection of Iriving Park Rd and River Rd. This is facing East.

Facing South on River Rd

Lawerence ave just east of 25th ave.

All the streets that crossed the dp river from river rd to east river rd were closed from higgins south to Belmont.

We got some CRAZY amounts of rain in a short period of time here in central IL too.

Wish I would have checked/seen this this morning. I was trying to get to work this morning, and I have to take those roads. I ended up drivng around and gave up once I got to North ave (south) and the roads were still closed.

Any tips on how to get to Bryn Mare and East river road area?

The camera is a Nikon D80 with a 18-135 lens :beer:

You could try getting on 294 NB and hit the jfk EB and exit at cumberland south. You should know your way from there.


There is a parking lot right off of east river and bryn mawr that is now a lake.

I'm guessing you used a tripod for the pic on the back of the flatbed? Either way, that is an incredible photo! I like how the truck is in clear detail, but the rest is motion blurred. Awesome.

Illinois got rocked pretty hard with rain. This was the basement at my girlfriend's parents' house on Saturday. About 3 1/2 feet of water of standing water. It was a mess...

The couch is floating...

I love the irony of the old boat oar in the corner...

The fully loaded fridge even started floating around...

We had a hurricane in Kentucky yestrday. Yep Kentucky. 80+ mph sustained winds for hours yesterday.

I thought I was back in Florida again.

Lost many very large trees in yard. 1 coming only a couple of feet from front of my house. Majority of city is without power today.

I will be playing clean up man most of the day today.

Ike + a cold front.


Crappy thing is most of Central Texas has been under drought conditions all summer. Ike made landfall about 250 +/- miles from here and we didn't get a single drop of rain out of it. Just gray skies and a breezy saturday afternoon.
