Now that I look at the Mach 1 it's I must have gotten that from the shingles on the rear window. Sorry if I hurt any one's feelings. BTW my Celica is awesome.

Dan........no offense taken about the 280Z or shingles remarks:smmon:

FYI......in addition to shingles over the rear window, many original '69-70 Mach's came with roof vents on their hoods also. That's why you may see modern Mach 1's with shingles and roof vents too.

Here's a pic showing my roof vent so U won't have to ask yourself "whut in tar-nation is that durn thang?:??:" next time you see one.

Hey save me some of that Granny's XXX shine you're swilling. I wanna put some in my gas tank for my next dyno run!

Well lets see how well these Mach1 DOHC Machine built motors really are

You will totally surpass your 01. Last time I went to dyno there was a completely stock mach 1 that got 289/318. If you don't get that you'll get damn close.

Public dynos? I don't know. Always been shy....never did like those locker room short arms inspections....never did so good. I was "short" changed. And, I always end up looking like a baby on his back on a changing table.

However, the beast is getting a dose of Viagra around that time and I might be a show afterall. Looks like a lonnnnnnnnnng day. Take a number? How do you do it?

Bill,
we usually get a tentative schedule, based around the folks that have some loose time and those on a very tight schedule (work, p-whipped, whatever) and then play it by ear. Some scheduled folks don't show, some others appear -- sometimes we have had mod sessions... Bring a folding chair and some reading material or a wireless laptop... Sunscreen, toys,

Usually the dyno operator wants to run similar cars together so he does not have to diddle with the settings all the time. Makes it more efficient, and increases the reliability of the numbers --- Juan, you and I run back to back with no changes except for the final drive ratios and it minimizes our ability to say "the dyno cheated me!!! My is not a wussy!!!:cryying: :cryying: :cryying: :cryying: "

The biggest problem is when we say 'no tuning' some nimrod (no names provided here) wants to 'just try a few things -- while its cooling from the first run ' while we are all waiting and we have to threaten to key his car ha ha (ok, perhaps I have been a wee bit guilty in the past ...)

I think I am IN!

Ok, I AM IN. two quick questions:

1. is the a/f done with a bung or tailpipe sniffers? if a bung do we need one installed beforehand or will they connnect one to the 02 sensor?

2. I think 2 pulls is plenty as well. Last dyno day I had it was $40 for two pulls with a/f (sniffers). I think $50 is a great price as well, but why $25 more for a/f? isn't it just another sensor that the dynojet will record?

thanks for any info and regardless I will be there.

Bill, I'll put you on the list.

James, I'm game. I'll even let you go before me.

Crazy, I'll add you too. A/F is through the tailpipe, and I don't know why he's charging an extra $25.

Most of the time the shops charge extra for use of the wideband because of the relativley short life-span of the O2 sensors (especially when leaded race gas is used) as compared to the high-cost of replacing them... Wide-band sensors aren't cheap...

cool. I will be there.

I probably will get the a/f for an extra 25.00.

I understand the o2 sensors are expensive and wear out but when they use tailpipe sniffers does it still use 02 sensors? I thought that was only for when the car has a bung or if they disconnect the o2 sensor on the car and connect their sensor.

anyways, I will be their. I am adding an idler an d want to make sure I am still safe.

question:

if my a/f was 10.8:1 with 11lbs of boost, what could I excpect it to be with 14-15lbs of boost?

either way we will see on the dyno day. My last a/f was off an o2 sensor connected to my exhaust. I hear the tailsniffers come up a little leaner than an o2 sensor?

thanks much and see you at the dyno!

With 4 more #'s of boost you generally lean out ~ half a point. With the tailpipe sniffer, they will lean you out a whole point sometimes over a good measurement before the cats.

cool. so I should be ok. If I was 10.8:1 before on a 02 sensor, I will probably be 12:1 with the increase boost and tailsniffers. 12:1 is perfect, no?

On my Lightning, I want to stay below 11.8:1 to keep it safe... A lot of people will say that 12:1 is your friend. I would rather richen it up a tad to make it super safe!!!

My personal Opinion

I understand, but I think 12.9:1 and water is optimal ;)

I was sitting around, all retired and completly stock, and I decided to check the threads to see what the people on the cutting edge were up to. What did I find? I retort, except when you are retired you mellow out.

not sure that dan was referring to, but take everything lightly here on this board, especially that old guy named tetge...if he mentions retirement just skip that entire section...

I have only retired from racing, although I do need to take one more run against Juan. I will not retire from work until spring of next year, and you will be back at work by then doing something. We know that you can't just stay home and do nothing. Me, I intend to sleep for at least one year after I retire, so, doing nothing is my goal in life.
Just one last race against Juan seems reasonable as long as he is still running 315 Nitto DR's. We both have 4.10's and Santa brought me something to help me out. I am hoping that it will be enough.

Hang over Day should see my car just as it was, bald ass DRs and all. However, by the dyno day, I MIGHT have a little something extra. ;-)

Yes. The final race before Juan turns his car into a thinly disguised funny car. It's getting harder and harder for me to find any stock Cobras, such as mine, to race against head's up. They are all modified with KB's and Aptens and headers and intercooler cooling systems, etc. Very few stock cars left. That's why I am retiring because I have no fun bracket racing. So, I need to run Juan when he is on the same tires as me with him having only a 30 HP/TQ, or so, advantage over me.

That's true, you are mainly stock. And, on equal DR's I am sure that we'd have a close race. You were giving up a lot on street tires the last time I saw you run at Carlsbad. The pulley does make a huge difference in RWTQ as long as detonation is controlled. And, your being able to drive well makes a big difference too.
