it was about 3am and i was heading home from the gym. it was super cold out so i wanted to let the cobra stretch its legs a little with some good boosting air. a spirited 2-3 pull and SNAP! voltage dummy light came on and i figured i just snapped the belt...so i pull off to assess the damage.

turns out the whole upper pulley snapped off. anyone done this before? i've never heard of it happening...what kind of damage did it cause and how did you go about with repairs?

holy shit! lol

as for the fix it looks like you will need a new snout unless you can drill it out.

Damn dude that sucks I agree with above you will probably need a new snout unless it can be drilled out. Could a tensioner have put to much tension on it and caused that? Ive never seen that before.

With the head of the bolt gone there is no longer any torque on the threads. That can very easily be extracted and that vent hole serves as an excellent pilot hole to drill a little bit and get an easy out in there.

But more importantly, what caused this? Damn!

My thoughts exactly! This is the first time in all my years here that I have seen something like this. I would contact KB and send them the pics to see what they have to say/recommend. Hopefully they will repair or send you a new snout at cost or something because that seems to be an internal defect unless you had some retarded amount of tension on that belt.

Is there anyway to spin the blower to make sure it did not seize up or have an abnormal amount of resistance to spinning?

Was the pulley installed and torqued from KB or had you swapped it out or had it off?
Possible the bolt was just over tightened and broke where it was fatigued or if you had it off and one a few times the bolt may have been fatigued as well. Conversely it could have been loose and caused the pulley to wobble and break the bolt.

I wouldn't be too concerned with getting the bolt remnants removed. Like mentioned earlier it is not under strain, rusted in, cross threaded, etc so you can drill with a reverse bit and it may just come out on its own while drilling before even getting the EZ out installed.

I'd be more concerned with cause. My guesses: over tightened, loose or higher torque needed to spin the input shaft.

I'll stay tuned and good luck!

Who works out at 3 am lol and why are you using a stock pulley as the aux pulley? The stock ones suck lol.

I've never heard/seen this in my life.

I work nights, so 3am is a normal time for me to be awake doing stuff. We had to move some pulleys around bc the aftermarket one that was there with the eaton didn't fit with the KB.

I'll try contacting KB, but the blower is kind of old so I'm not expecting a lot from them.
