slop in shifter

Any idea what causes this slop in my shifter...it moves like this it all gears.. See video

Normal condition for stock shifter. There is a universal joint used to connect the shifter shaft to selector shaft on trans. Direct result of factory "short throw" feel and for NVH control. Root cause of 2nd grind which starts during high RPM 1-2 upshifts but gets bad enough that it will grind 1-2 upshift in normal shifting.

There are many upgrades available, but the best IMO is the MGW Gen 2 shifter:

watch all videos for better info on the issue and why MGW works so well. Also, and upgrade to a synthetic ATF fluid in the trans will help too.

That play is the reason MGW designed the Gen 2 shifter. It gets rid of all of it.
