Silicone band for work, Carbon Fiber band for day to day outside of work, Tungsten Carbide for nice occasions(my actual wedding band).

The Tungsten is too expensive and heavy to wear day to day so it only comes out for special occasions. The carbon band is the one ive work from day one as my regular use band. About two years ago i started wearing silicone bands at work since we had a worker "de-glove" his finger coming down a ladder. Saw the finger and that was it. Worn a black silicone ring at work every day from there on out. Got 4 of them off Amazon for $8.

I've had the cheapest silicone one I found on amazon at the time for 3 years with zero issues. Its dark gray with a black stripe that most people think is tungsten/carbide at first glance. I think between the silicone one and my nice tungsten/carbon fiber one I spent less than $20. I never bought into the expensive band idea and my cheap amazon tungsten/carbon ring is indistinguishable from the $400+ ones. The silicone one I leave on for everything where with the metal one I couldn't comfortably lift or work on the car without the thought of de-gloving in the back of my mind.

I know plenty of people who switched to them because their jobs are involved mechanically. I watched someone get their metal ring caught on a pneumatic cylinder one time, and it filleted the skin on the finger down to the bone as it dragged it up. After that, he switched to a silicone ring.

I have a low profile tungsten band, but it still clinks on things. I take it off if I'm playing guitar, working on a car, or doing dishes.

Being an avid and science-minded golfer I had calculated that removing an 8 gram gold wedding ring should translate into just under 1 MPH more in driver club head speed; or almost 2 yards gained on a drive. I decided to test this and left my ring in my locker at the club.

It made no difference in distance which was obviously disappointing. The problems escalated when we headed up to the spike bar after the round. One of the cocktail girls immediately spotted my naked finger and assumed the wife and I were on a break. Seeing an opportunity she slid into my lap and began wriggling and gyrating about. This was totally inappropriate, of course, so I put a quick stop to it within minutes (and definitely less than 10. Don't listen to anyone who says longer. They are full of shit).

I had never heard of these silicone rings but it's definitely something I'm going to try next time to avoid misunderstandings like that. Sounds like a good idea for any guy when at work.

For the very short time I spent working around heavy machinery and in maintenance, I just didn't wear a ring. I've seen the silicone rings and they look pretty neat, but now I just wear my original $20 faux carbon fiber/tungsten ring 24/7. LOL

I have a silicone band as I work in PT. I don't even notice it. They are cheap and durable.

Check out Amazon. There are silicone rings in 3 packs for less then $10, they are surprisingly durable. I have deadlifted 500+ lbs while wearing one of mine and it held up just fine.

I know the silicone rings will tear/break before metal--and obviously they won't deform, but how much damage will they do to your finger before they break?

Same here; haven't worn my wedding ring for 6+ years. I might be okay with a silicone/flexible ring. The reason i couldn't stand the metal band is because it was always noticeable, I think a flexible ring would solve that issue for me.

It's probably been 10 years or so since I've worn mine. My daughter grabbed it off of my nightstand one time and it was gone for a while. We ended up finding it, but I started getting eczema which would make my fingers swell and I couldn't get it on or off. Not a big fan of jewelry to begin with.

Boy, am I looking forward to the apocalypse! Things will be sooooo much easier then.
We will finally be able to rest from the oppressive, life threatening problems of deciding between metal, silicon or composite ring material and leave behind the problems of swelling and chaffing. Our biggest problem then will be, "am I going to find anything to eat today?"

Ha ha. You make the apocalypse sound pretty darn good. But who even knows how long that is going to take? In the meantime, we still have the problem in front of us.

    Focus!

I have to admit that although I have never even seen one, I'm leaning towards the rubber ring. Being ever the pragmatist I'm really impressed with the combination of low cost and multi purpose (wedding and wiener). The only downside being that many report them to be ghey. Seems a fair trade-off.

These things can double as a man-bun, pre-BJ pony tail holder, so yeah versatile and Ghey.

I'll admit... I'm a little late to the game and haven't read all responses...

Switching to a silicon was the best move I've made since marrying my wife. I looked seriously into Groove, Enso, and a couple other $30+ options. Since I wasn't convinced that I'd like the silicon, we ordered a cheap 3 pack off Amazon for $10.

I don't even know it's there. The only reason my first one broke was because I was being fidgety and pulled it too hard and snapped it.

If you're on the fence, you can't beat these for a trial run.

Already told my lady that there is to be one ring that I wear and only when we are out in public at a bar or something. Will never wear anything at work.

TBH Im not a fan of jewelry, never been a fan of wearing it. Ill keep a ring on my key chain though just so its always with me.

Ok, here is my serious thought on the matter. Wedding bands signify a permanent commitment to a woman. Having a play thing, flexible ring which is replaced often means you don’t take this symbol of marriage seriously, and/or your morals are as flexible as the nickels worth of rubber that it takes to manufacture these things. I get the taking off a metal ring for work place safety, but don’t replace it with a cheap imitation of the real thing. That is unless you’re lazy, unfaithful, or Ghey.

Serious thoughts as well... Completely disagree. The material, quality, or design of a wedding ring does not equate to the "seriousness" of the marriage. Just because my ring is "flimsy", doesn't mean our marriage or commitment is.

Tungsten rings are heavy/bulky and can cause pain and irritation in certain scenarios. I want a multi-dimensional ring. Silicon is just that. I never have to think about it. Office job, wear it. Weedeat for 2 hours, wear it. Swimming, wear it. Change oil, wear it.

I'm toying with the idea of getting a tattoo'd ring, but worried I'll do something stupid to make my wife leave me. :)

I mean no offense but there sure are a lot of guys here that sound like gracefully aging homos.

Ha, that's a lot of weight to put into a metal band. I don't need any material object to remind me how much I love my wife and my commitment to her. Perhaps some need a constant reminder to do the right thing: like a ring, or remember those WWJD bands?
