Why would premiums skyrocket with a full repeal?

ACA mandates that people can buy insurance after they get sick, insurance must cover things that can never happen to them, and no caps in dollar amounts insurance must cover. All those things cost tons of money and are the reasons most premiums are up over 100%+ since the ACA.

Not everyone has coverage now under the ACA. A coworker was just telling me that last year his family did with out insurance because of the cost. He was rewarded with a $2000 penalty to the IRS. He wants insurance but the ACA has made it unaffordable to the working middle class in order to give a hand out to others.

Looking at the basic Cigna Connect 6400, and deal with the issues. I liked BCBS, but now it stands for 'Big Cash BS'

My biggest concern is keeping the kids' doctor.

Thanks to everyone.

The premiums would skyrocket because less people would pay premiums to spread the risk pool. Keep in mind, carriers have to cover those that were previously unable to get insurance as a mandate which was supported by ALL premium payers.

ACA does not mandate that people can buy insurance after they get sick. There is a reason for open enrollment periods that mandate coverage during this time period or go without coverage and a penalty. Only way to get coverage outside enrollment is special enrollment by qualification. The ACA mandates no pre-existing conditions on policies.

The reason cost is up is because of those taking the penalty without coverage, the cost to pay for those that have pre-existing condition are greater than anticipated and restrictions on what carriers can charge between age brackets and tobacco users. Reduce the number of premium payers on the current system raises the premiums on those that need coverage exasperated by those that have pre existing conditions.

Your last paragraph is exactly part of the problem that needs to be fixed the right way.....affordable coverage that is fair and balanced.

Kid's doctor doesn't take the Cigna...Bought it anyway, and will pay the doctor with a check or card. Cigna would be for major stuff.

Probably.

Thanks everyone. Thanks O/S.

Why should there be a penalty if you don't want coverage?
There shouldn't be. It's forced socialism.
Extortion, if you will.
The problem is though that those without end up in the hospitals anyway and the hospitals are mandated to treat everyone, so we pay for it either way.
