SA 2000 helmet.

I've heard the SA 2010 standard has been delayed until October this year.
If so, will I be able to use my SA 2000 helmet this year? I would rather wait
to buy an SA 2010 than have to buy an SA 2005 and only have it be good for 5 years.
Is it determined by the track or the event organizers?
Thanks.

For the two groups I work with, we are honoring the SA2000 through the end of calendar year 2010. So starting in Janurary 2011, we will require SA2005 and better.

HTH,

Kevin

EDIT: And like Carlos stated, it is up to the Organizers. They are the one with the insurance rider on the event.

This is accurate, I am the chief of tech for N.A.S.A Texas and we have not been told anythIng about not allowing sa2000 helmets for this season, and this information usually comes from our national office. If anything changes I will let you know.

Most groups follow SCCA and NASA leads.
From SCCA 2010 GCR (General Competition Rules):

SFI with a SFI Sticker 31.1a for open faced helmets and a SFI
sticker 31.2a for closed faced (if purchased prior to 12/31/04),
SFI 31.1 (if purchased after 1/1/05), or by the FIA standard
8860-2004, or British Standards Institute BS6658-85 type A/
FR. The back of each driver’s helmet shall be labeled with a

Tsk, tsk, tsk Greg. No Hans anchor installed? I can see why the Grape is angry. :)

I'm not waiting for the 2010 release. I bought a GForce Eliminator SA2005 Helmet as well not too long ago. The prices have come down to such a reasonable level, its really a (pardon the pun) "no brainer" to replace an old helmet now a days without worry.

I'm thinking about picking up a second helmet so my passengers don't have to use an old M2000 one I have laying around. There was a time way back when, when I thought "what's the big deal" running an M in a car event (I'm a bike guy too)? Do enough research and the answer becomes obvious quickly. Get the SA2005+.

John, at least it has the holes for a HANS anchor, unlike my old, beat-up helmet. But I just don't have the $500 that it takes yet.

And it's not like I'm spending it on other car parts. The new helmet is the only purchase this off season, and the only car mod is beefing up my rollbar anchor points. I'm not happy not having a HANS, but not enough to avoid going out until I can get one. I hope I don't regret that decision.

The grape is from SPK. :D
