So I'm putting together a new varmint rig for rock chucks and prairie dogs. Already have decided on .22-250. I've been looking around and got to look at and handle a Ruger American. The trigger is really sweet and adjustable to boot. Also has a free-float barrel. Gun shop dude says people are liking them. The low price scares me though. I don't want to buy junk. Anybody have one of these or shoot one regardless of caliber ?

Ruger has a good reputation and generally makes good guns. With that said, I still prefer a Remington 700 action. If it comes down to dollars, you can't go wrong with whichever is cheaper. Put good glass on, find a load it likes (factory or handload) and practice. Good luck.
