To make a long story short, My intercooler cracked over winter.

It cracked on the back side of it.

Has anyone actually had one repaired? Or should I just go with a used one.

Thanks,
Jason

Did the coolant mix get in on top of the pistons?

If you take it to a radiator shop with Aluminum TIG welding capability, they will be able to tell you if it is repairable or not.

Obviously a new one would be the safest repair.

I just bought one. They are $660 bucks for Tousely!!!!! Ford only had three in the whole nation at this time. I think it could be fixed, but I don't know if I would like the idea.

I think there is an aftermarket IC available. $600 with 3 in stock in the whole wide world. That's kinda scary :uh oh:

I don't... I inherited this little problem.

I don't think it is worth running high water percentage on the street period!! No speakable gain whatsoever.

If guys keep running high water percentages in them, they probably will.

Yes it did. Should I be concerned about anything?

I had the crack tig welded up, and we did a quick pressure test on it and it held.

Make sure the engine did not hydro-lock and bend a rod.
Also make sure the tops of the pistons did not corrode and that the rings are not all rusted up too bad.

Usually the starter is not strong enough to bend a rod if it did hydrolock, but if it started up it is possible.

It would not turn the car over with the fluid on the pistons. I pulled all the plugs and blew all the water out that way.

I've had this same problem... my car would not start either so I pulled the plugs and blew out the coolant. Now i have low compression in one of the middle cylinders on the passenger side head! I have pulled the motor, but have not taken the head off yet... any suggestions on if a blown head gasket or cracked head?? All other cylinders were around 100psi and 1 @ 30psi... (not trying to thread jack )
