So today Ive come to the realization that there are two types of car people: Those that visit forums for their info, and those that dont and talk out their ass.
Story:
Got invited to go to the gun range with my cousin. First I was semi-hesitant as I have shit to do but he hinted that the other dude we were going with has a 2012 5.0 and wed take that. OK, that sounds a bit more fun.
Too bad the owner is a COMPLETE ****tard. The only way this dumpass can even afford this car was to save all his pennies when he was in the corps so he can come out and just lay it all down on 1 item.
Driving to the range he starts talking about his mods.
Him- "yeah I put a 'header-back' xpipe on it and K&N with the diablo tune, its putting down almost 600hp"
Me - "
Not with those mods it isnt"
Him -
"yeah huh bro, these cars were underrated by Ford, they dyno like 475 stock"
Me - "Uhh they might be underrated but not anywhere close to that. They are 412hp crank stock, they might dyno 370-390 depending on a bunch of variables come dyno day. Ford isnt about to underrate a car that much, that makes no sense"
Him - "Well you just dont know cars bro. This car is ****ing fast as shit, I raced a 400hp B16 Hatch and took him rounding 3rd gear"
Me -
"Cool, what did the honda have done?"
Him -
"B20 block and LS/VTEC swap, Type-R cams and a 150 shot of NAWSS. He beats all the vee-ates around here"
Me - "uhh, a B20 block does not make it a LS/VTEC anymore. An LS/VTEC swap entails using a b18 block with a gsr head."
At this point im getting pretty annoyed and my cousin (in the back seat) whispers in my ear "dude just let it go, he doesnt like being wrong" so I did.
While waiting for lanes at the gun range, he startes spewing more retardation. Things like "X pipes have more flow, H pipes restrict flow" after I told him I prefered the H pipe on mustangs compared to X's as I dont like the raspines (and his 5.0 was raspy as **** and sounded HORRIBLE!). Some other things like saying that honda does 12's flat in the quarter (lol @ that), and how he thinks he has an 11 second car because he took him by 5 carlengths by end of 4th from a dig.
Heres more quick tidbits of the retardation:
- 99/01 Cobras come stock with a whipple supercharger, the 03/04's got neutered with the Vortech unit (HOLY **** @ THAT)
- GT350 is better than a GT500, why? read below. In his world the 350 comes with, yet again, a Whipple supercharger. Think thats the only brand he knew.
- His buddies '11 5.0 with a whipple at 22psi stock motor makes 900hp
- He launches in 2nd gear because it gives him more torque
- He has wheelspin in 4th gear with his diablo canned tune so he had to put the stock tune in
- All a GT500 is is a standard GT with shelby ground effects and the brembo brake package (that he has already).
- My cobra was slow because I only did a 13.0.... going from 2nd to 4th because that night 3rd had me on lockdown.
He asked me what a Procharger has that a standard supercharger doesnt. "Uhh, Procharger is a company that makes centrifugal styled superchargers, like Vortech, Powerdyne and others" him - "oh, I thought its like a upgrade for a standard supercharger". "no dude, theres two main types of superchargers, three if you count a twin screw as different than a roots style, and then you have centrifugals".
You cant make this stuff up people. So the logic behind him thinking he has "600hp" and having a close race with a "400hp" pos civic (you should see the facebook vid, its laughable at best) is just uncanny.
I asked him if hes on any forums when we got back to my cousins place. Obvious answer was "Nope. I dont need the internet to do my mods"
Its become obvious there is a big difference between people in the community that are part of forums where misinformation is squashed down and real information on real mods and realistic gains is readily available, compared to people who open up a Summit magazine and think everything they do gains 50hp.
Oh and he honestly thought Autozone would have the replacement cable to his Diablo tuner. LOL "no dude, thats a proprietary cable they use now, no more DB9 to OBDII, autozone wont have it" and sure enough.
On top of that, it wasnt even that fast, and the rear end had some creak to it already. Solid Rear LOL.
