The 2011 GTR has a mid pipe and Cobb tune (550 at flywheel). My cobra has a whipple 18 lbs boost (600 rwp 520 rwt). On a closed course, I was in 3rd gear at 3k rpms and I let the GTR get the jump. He instantly put 1 cars on me before I floored it as I didn't think his car was that fast, huge mistake. I hit 4th gear and he was 1.5 cars ahead, by the end of 4th he was 2.5 cars ahead. Just before I let off the gas I looked at the speedo at the top of 5th gear which read 150 mph and he was likely 3-4 cars ahead of me. I was really impressed at the GTR with minimal mods. I was wondering if anyone else has had any run ins with any GTR and if so what are your mods and what was outcome? What can I do to my car to up power, my mods are 2.3 whipple 18lbs boost, airfuel 11.5, timming 19*,next gen JLT with filter in fender, cat back, cat less x-pipe, lethal budget return fuel system. I appreciate any help.

GTR's are no joke :uh oh:

Don't feel bad it could have been worse :-D

Traction and aerodynamics are not in your favor here. I think the GTR C/D is .026 compared to our car at .36 :nonono:

where is this closed course exactly?

Never take any car lightly and give them a car length jump.

i have ran a few gtr's... very nice and very fast cars. i havent lost to one yet. but the races have been close.

my advise is more hp. perhaps a small nitrous shot or more boost or a meth kit. but either way the car is lighter so your gonna have to compensate somewhere.

my car made 630 rwhp and 595 rwtq. i have raced from like 30-40 mph rolls to about 150-160. im usually only 1-3 cars a head of them. but the ones i raced were not stock either. they had been tuned and other misc stuff done to them.

I raced one when my car was making 590rwhp ish.. I had 4.10's and a built motor T-trim 17psi etc etc. He claimed 650rwhp. full bolt ons but stock turbo's. I put 3 cars on him iirc. I started in 3rd at around 4200rpm and just honked it off, I don't know what gear he was in but I pulled hard on him..

GTR is my dream car. Hope to have one at some point. It's in a whole different league.

A little more boost and proper fuel should put you ahead of the one you raced. Turbo would be the better choice to keep up with one though in the upper speeds. If you come across a heavily modded one you are going to need much more to keep up.

I haven't run one, nor do I have anywhere near the power that you do.

But maybe try running again and don't let him get the jump on you. Whith a car like that I don't think you're going to be able to let him get the hit and pull him back.

Maybe have a race gas tune as well?

Sounds like from what others have said, they can be taken down with your power level, depending on your boost and power numbers.

Once I get my 2.76 upper on and a tune I'd like to see how I go against a stock one. If it's not stock I'm not going to waste the gas lol

Something doesnt sound right. You have 600rwhp and he has 550 flywheel hp. The GTR weighs over 3800 pounds so there is no advantage there. You have instant boost with tq coming in quick and he has stock turbos. You should have been able to run him down unless he is lying about what he is really making.

This.

If he kept pulling on you after you got in it and continued to add lengths all the way into 5th, I question his power/mods. You have at least 100hp on him and probably 150lbft or more.

Go with compound boost. Add some turbos with a stock supercharger and kill most everyone.
I don't think you can run compound boost with a whipple though. Maybe someone will jump in.

I see you are kind of new here, but compounds have been discussed many times over the several years I have been on this site. The conclusion is that straight turbo charging is way more efficient, and the compound is merely for cool factor.
