Project -the Mach Notch- updates pg3

Ok so I figure I will do a build thread of my car. It's nothing special. But I have been collecting parts all winter and my garage is getting full if boxes so I started throwing the car back together. I will post up to date as I get everything done on the car. I have a big car show coming up in April 27th so it should be 100% complete by then but I only can work on the car after work and weekends! Ok let's get to the good stuff!

So for everyone who has not seen the car, it's a 1988 notch with a full 2004 Mach 1 drivetrain, interior, 2004 cobra IRS and brakes all around! Now the car ran great, went to the REFEREE and passed California's "super tough" smog standards! The car up to this point has accomplished everything I set out to do! And I will "let the cat out of the bag" on that in a couple weeks! But now over the winter I decided to do some upgrades! I purchased a 2004 cobra longblock with 35k miles on it from a friend that blew it up with his Whipple and a "bad" tune! Decided to buy a NOVI 1000 blower and add 11-12lbs of boost! Should be a nice little setup that will be fun and hopefully reliable in my little fox!

So here is the car before the teardown! Couple quick pics!

Ok so now let's get the old motor out! Keep in mind that with the fox and keeping the sway bar, it must come out through the top!

Ok so that fun is done! Now I wanted to leave the Mach motor complete so I can sell it! Didn't wanna waste a perfectly good motor! So it got sold and I tore down the cobra longblock! What did I find? Few melted pistons and it ended up being worse then I thought! But here is the Mach motor, ready for the new owner!

The crank has walked forward and destroyed the thrust bearing and are up 1/4" if material off the rear Crank main journal where the flywheel bolts up! So that cost me $350 to have the crank welded, grinded and polished! I bought some new .20 overbore -.11cc diamond pistons! Best looking piston I have ever bought! Re used the Manley svt rods! All new ARP main studs and head studs!

Ok so since I can never leave well enough alone. While the beautiful motor was out being built, I decided to dress the engine bay up! I have shaved atleast 15 engine bays on mustangs from foxes to sn95s! I figured why not, it's my show car, so I started cleaning up the bay and welding in panels! And I picked the car up from the paint shop the same day as the motor so it all worked out! Feast your eyes!

Welding done! Now skip to paint done!!! It's home!!!

Ok well I was pretty happy with how all that turned out! Now I have been assembling the rest of the motor all weekend! I will skip all the issues I have came across and where I am at now is the motor is basically assembled. I am waiting on a couple gaskets and the rest of my parts back from Powdercoat! I was trying to do all my parts in wrinkle blue but the powdercoater told me Friday that something happened and the powder did not stick. He was going to sandblast a small part and re try it again with a different baking procedure and see what happens! If not then I'm stuck with him trying to match the parts to my azure blue paint color. It will just be as close as we can get! Anyhow here is where I am at!

Ok and I will add a few pics of my favorite parts of the build so far! Obviously the pistons! The pacesetter armor coated headers and O/R x-pipe look fabulous for the price I paid! There were a couple things I disliked but anyone who complains about a part less then half the price of all the competitors, is insane! And my circle D triple disc billet 3600 stall! And my novi blower! I am fabbing the intercooler and piping still! I wanted mine routed my way! So it's all custom!

Oh I forgot to mention, my buddy Steve at true forged sent me some new CNC engraved center caps. So I'll throw a pic up of that! Steve always takes care of me!

Because the cobra motor came with 9 thread heads, forged crank, Manley forged rods and I got it for dirt cheap. Once I sold the mach1 motor, I had basically already paid for the cobra motor and my pistons!

Beautiful car and craftsmanship. What transmission does the car have? Is it staying auto?

Ya it's staying auto with the 4r75w. These trans can handle good power and I don't plan on tracking the car anyhow. The stall should make a world of difference!

So all I got accomplished today was drilling and tapping a broken bolt in the timing cover for the cam senser. The stupid easy out didn't work! But it's done, then I had to change a fuel pump in my buddies S10 that broke down infront of my house! And that didn't fix the problem so now I have to try the fuel pump relay! Reminds me why I stopped working and/or owning chevy's!!! Ugh I hate them!!

Really nice build, and I really like the Mach conversion. Surprisingly though I just don't really care for the wheels, True Forged is awesome and that style flows with the Mach theme but I can't help but wonder what a set of stock Mach wheels up front and the deep dish style wheels in back would look like. Anyhow I'm definitely not trying to criticize or hate on it, the whole build and work you've done to it are awesome, I love that engine bay! Looking forward to the finished product.

Here ya go jaysin. This was when it was in stock mach1 wheels. Could not fit the deep dish with the IRS rear end. They don't make the right offset! So I went with custom wheels and made my own offsets! They turned out perfect!

Oh wow that's a shame the deep dish wheels wouldn't fit, but it looked good with. I definitely understand the need for custom wheels, still looking forward to the finished product!
