I've got some downhill tubes and tires and some other stuff if anyone wants some practically new stuff for cheap. Just throwing it out there.

Got any more specifics? Brand, width, used/new, etc? Cost too?

As for the Hydraulic brakes, I'm super excited to use these. Alot of rubber padded brakes (not all) have a sort of on or off only feeling, theres not much in between. The ceramic/metalic hydraulic brakes have alot more feel and modulation to them, meaning its just like your cars.

The brakes are upgraded to Formula Oro K24. I've only read good things about them. No one has had brake fade with them, which some lower lined hydraulics can unfortunately have.

I'm more of a mountain biker than a road biker. I ride my road bike a lot, but I don't ride in groups and I haven't ridden a lot of other road bikes.

That being said I think my Giant was the best bang for the buck. They use a compact frame geometry. As long as it fits you well you should be all set. Everyone told me to get the OCR because the posture was more relaxed. I just wanted to go fast so I got the TCR. I figured if I wanted to be comfy I can ride one of my mountain bikes on the road.

It turned out though that I'm perfectly comfortable on the TCR. I did my first 100 mile ride last year. I was on the bike for 5 hours 49 minutes and never got uncomfortable.

It also has a compact double crankset. It seems like a great compromise between a standard double and a triple.

Once I replaced the wheels with Dura-ace wheels and some Michelin race tires the bike is under 18 pounds (it's the carbon version).

I don't know anything about triathalon, but in road racing Giant is a huge name.

Here is full on Carbon fiber Cervelo P3 time trial bike that I own. My Cervelo P3 Carbon is almost identical to the one that a team CSC rider used to set the fastest time trial in Tour De France history back in 2006. In addition to the full carbon fiber frame, the bike has Zipp Z series carbon fiber wheels with ceramic bearing hubs and Continental competition tubular tires. the derailleur pulleys and crank bottom bracket also sport ceramic bearings. the brakes and drive train are dura ace and the crank is a carbon fiber FSA K force with 53/39 chain rings. the rear dura ace 11 23 gears are titanium. the time trial Handle bar is a all carbon fiber unit from FSA vision tech.

As for how fast I go on it, I averaged over 20 MPH on one of the toughest Half iron triathlons in USA.

That's truly IMPRESSIVE!

I wish I had that stamina today. I'm more of a seasonal rider, doing 35-40 miles a day. Maybe next year I'll participate in a historic vintage race.

I'm amazed at how much money I've saved this summer by just cruising around with my boys downtown and not going to the bars.

LOL, same here. There's some crazy long hills running through downtown seattle that we used to ride. I never thought I could go that fast on a BMX bike. People turn around at just the last second to see you fly by them.

I have to find a pic of my cousins racing bike (used it for Triathalon). Custome made Titanium in Italy. The builder flew to Toronto (him from Victoria, BC) to meet him and measure him up. $14K Canadian in 1988. Totally overkill for Triathalon or anything really.

That's right. Pedal power. Post up your stats. Size, weight, top gear speed on straights, top speed, etc. No mountain bikes should not be posted in here unless they have a top speed of more than 30 MPH.

Mine is a 1981 custom built hybrid track/road frame with a top gear ratio of 52:12. All Shimano 600 equipment, except SR pedals, oversized handlebars, and seatpost. Overall top gear speed on straights is 44 MPH. All Shimano tubing (no Reynolds here).

Top downhill speed is over 65 MPH. 28x1" racing wheels with overall weight of 18.5 lbs. Completely restored, light, agile, and one HELL of a fast ride. Not too shabby for 30 year-old technology.
