That's right. Pedal power. Post up your stats. Size, weight, top gear speed on straights, top speed, etc. No mountain bikes should not be posted in here unless they have a top speed of more than 30 MPH.

Mine is a 1981 custom built hybrid track/road frame with a top gear ratio of 52:12. All Shimano 600 equipment, except SR pedals, oversized handlebars, and seatpost. Overall top gear speed on straights is 44 MPH. All Shimano tubing (no Reynolds here).

Top downhill speed is over 65 MPH. 28x1" racing wheels with overall weight of 18.5 lbs. Completely restored, light, agile, and one HELL of a fast ride. Not too shabby for 30 year-old technology.

I'm thinking about doing something totally off-the-wall. I have the G-Tech SS in a box here and was thinking of mounting it to the handlebars, just to see what my 60' and 30 MPH ET would be.

Of course I'm at 7300' elevation, so maybe I'll adjust it for sea level....

I'm still holding out hope that this thread is a joke.

What is the joke? That a couple of legs on an 18 lb bike can keep up with most cars in traffic? Or that a G-tech might be involved. :D

id be a bit nervous to go 44mph on those tires:eek:

Try 65. That's flat out NUTS. This morning I was heading down a steep incline rated at 50 MPH with a Lexus behind me. When we hit the stop sign, the gentleman with his entire family was staring at me and pointing. The onboard Cateye measured 64 MPH.

It gets ridiculous at this speed. The wind is so heavy you can feel the bike oscillate. Gives you a whole new perspective on just how fast 65 MPH really is. :uh oh:

If it goes faster than 30 MPH then yes (regardless of how you get it to top speed), you can post it here. I managed to get my old BMX to 35 MPH, but I swapped out the handlebars with inverted 12 speed ones and enlarged the primary gear to 54 teeth.

Trek has some good entry level bikes for under $500. Check out RimNordic.com. I was just up there today 8-mile course @ 11,000 feet in the Sierra-Nevadas. Saw some expensive bikes up there today.

Downhill full suspension bikes hit triple digits, thats on dirt too.
