This past week my 12 GT500 started to have a problem that I believe is the transmission or clutch. While driving in 5th or 6th gear at 50-65 MPH when I hit the gas and accelerate the engine revs up a couple thousand RPM and then maybe a second later the car starts to accelerate, then a few seconds later I can smell something but not a clutch smell. It does not do it in 1st, 2nd or 3rd gear, a little bit in 4th and really bad in 5th and 6th.

The car has 36,000 miles and is the original transmission.

Any help would be great. I don't want to take it to my dealer until I am sure what it is.

Thanks

Try this. At a stop, and with your foot hard on the brake, put it in 5th and let the clutch out fast. The engine should stall immediately. Sounds like a slipping clutch.

Good tip

Sounds like the clutch is history. A good test is what you did. cruising in 4th hammer it and if the rpms go up and the speed does not it is most likely a slipping clutch.
