Founding father of folk music,

Member of the Rock and Roll Hall of fame,

Member Song Writers Hall of Fame

Friend and colleague of Woody Guthrie,

Mentor to Bob Dylan,

Admired by Bruce Springsteen who called him "a living archive of America’s music and conscience",

Life time Achievement Grammy winner,

Awarded Kennedy Center Medal and National Medal of Arts,

Writer of "If I Had a Hammer," ''Turn, Turn, Turn" (#1 hit for the Byrds), and ''Where Have All the Flowers Gone",

Lifetime political activist,

Champion of the labor movement in the 40's,

Champion of Civil and Racial Rights, in the 50's,

Attacked and investigated by Eugene McCarthy in the 50's,
Champion of the anti vietnam war movement in the 60's.

Censored and then blacklisted from Television singing for his Vietnam protest song, "Waist Deep in the Big Muddy,"

Environmentalist since the 70's and almost single handedly did more for cleaning up the Hudson River than anyone else!

I had the opportunity to volunteer at a number of the festivals to raise money for the Sloop Clearwater which he used to promote the cleaning of the Hudson River. In doing so I had the opportunity to meet him on a number of occasions, he was humble and the "Real Deal".

RIP Pete, a true American Icon

Heard this news just this afternoon. Really nothing to add to what you posted as a tribute.
