Excellent.

Can you post one pic of it empty? Just to get a reference point.

Btw, id like to point out that even with 7 QUARTS ENTIRELY IN THE PAN, with none in the filter or oil cooler, or heads, etc, the crank scrappers are still above the fluid level. obviously a crank counterweight can't be below that, now can it.

4 Quarts fills the sump entirely, without an opportunity for sloshing.

No chance for windage or aeration, because as I stated, the oil level is NO WHERE NEAR the crank.

excellent, pretty much proves no harm in running 7 quarts. As quad says, thats 7 all in the pan which never happens anyway.

Good post thank you!

this should be a sticky

Thats exactly what me and my buddy from this site Chrome98Cobra were saying. The oil is no where even near the crank. I'll post that empty pan pic here in a few minutes.

Very nice work. Interesting and scary. I'm going right out and check my oil... again. Thanks for taking the time to do the test.

Id also like to mention that the oil pan is designed better than I thought. There is a slight baffle to reduce sloshing.

But with 4 quarts in the pan (which I believe is typical if you actually pour 7 quarts into the motor and have it running) there is almost NO chance that you will uncover the pickup.

Science trumps stupidity again! Nice pics, and I think a comment or two regarding this should be included in a sticky...7 quarts!

BTW, I hope you used GC or Redline for the test!
