I ran Bama tunes on my 11GT for far too long. nearly 10K miles. Dropped them for AED and never looked bad.

Bama even with datalogging couldn't fix there crappy tunes. Stalling, horrible idle, etc. onward.

Fixed with a base tune from AED. Hadn't even datalogged.

BTW, AM's Lawyers haven't shut this thread down yet?

Yes but you lost the free toons for life.:D

I've owned, driven, worked on and raced Mustangs for years. The fact that I have to rely on someone else to tune what I build is aggravating. Everyone has the best tune and every change requires a new tune. I have a BAMA tune with no issues but then again I don't drive the car much. 450 miles in last 2 years and most of those were on Friday night to and from the local race track. For the money I'd rather have the option of taking it to a BAMA sponsored dealer and place the car on a DYNO for a tune specifically for my car. I've done the data log before but my concern is while I'm out doing some wide open pulls on my mail order tune what happens if its off and I go lean on the already sensitive # 8 cylinder? There might not be a 2nd chance as the damage may already be done at that point.

I wouldn't go so far as to say Ford's tune wasn't at all ever to blame, I just lost my 2012 GT short block after 23500 miles. Never aftermarket tuned, premium gas every time and just the other night I had a really bad engine sound. When I took it to the dealer they gave me the bad news. Lost the number 8 cylinder.

C5Reeper,

That's really a shame to hear man. I hope the dealership is taking care of you with a new shortblock!

May93,

I'm glad you've enjoyed your Bama tunes! I you would like to catalog them, the Bama Team would love to take a look and see if there's any tweaks necessary. I honestly wouldn't worry about cylinder #8 letting go during a catalog. Not only are the base tunes within safe parameters, but they knock & lambda sensors are still active. This means they'll pull any necessary timing needed and if your WOT air/fuel is slightly off, it will self adjust.

Send me a PM if you would like assistance contacting the Bama Team. I'd gladly contact them for you, if you're interested. Just send me your First/Last name and shipping address!

mattadams6552,

You're absolutely correct on the coverage. Here's a link to the full Bama Cylinder #8 Warranty if you haven't reviewed it fully yet. You can also feel free to ask me any questions you may have about the warranty!

As far as your current tune occasionally lugging down. Do you think you could replicate the symptom in a datalog? That would make it very easy for the Bama Team to see what you're experiencing and make the appropriate tweaks.

Shoot me over a PM with your First/Last name and shipping address too. I'll get this moving for you, so we can have your Mustang squared away ASAP!

Shane

Thank You for the help. I called am the night i posted this, and they acted like they really didnt want to data log. Glad your going out of your way to make this happen. I was actually saving to switch to AED, I'll stay with bama if this takes care of my problem.

The procal isn't meant to be an edgy tune. It basically boosted low end TQ and got rid of select shift.

I've seen 3 local DFW guys log a Bama tune to find they are commanding almost 30° of timing on 93, some of them pulling an additional 2-3° of timing, other not. That's just too damn much on these motors. I've also seen many dyno runs with A/F running into the mid 12s almost 13 at WOT on Bama tunes, which is pretty lean. Yeah, it makes power, but that's still too far on edge.

The Bama tuned cars I have datalogged show nice AFR usually but all have knock and/or high spark advance. I simply direct the owners to call/email Bama and get it fixed or to go elsewhere if they do not get rid of the knock. I have heard Bama tell some of these owners "Some knock is ok as long as the sensors are working they are doing their job." That is total bs!!! I run on the ragged edge and always have ZERO knock.

Remember with the SCT LiveLink II a positive knock sensor number is PULLING timing and a negative is ADDING timing.

Here are some screenshots of 4 of the cars I have datalogged recently (within the last 2 months):

Couldn't this also be the result of bad fuel? I read a bunch of threads where Shawn wouldn't touch a car because of it. How do you (or how does a tuner )control getting shitty fuel?

Getting bad fuel can produce spark knock but commanding 29+ degrees when using 93 octane is not dictated by what fuel you put in ;)

At the expense of possibly being flamed...

Can someone tell me how to interpret and read the above graphs?

29.5 of advance is e85 territory, that kind of timing should NOT be seen on 93 octane. When I tune cars on 93 I go for 24-25 degrees of peak timing and stay on the conservative side for advance and make most of my power with cam timing adjustments.

This is very true, I just went through 2 tanks of bad fuel datalogging with shaun.

I had some horrible fuel and was seeing +3-4.0 knock and was only seeing max 19-21 degrees. Car felt like a slug. Threw some torco in the tank was seeing -3-4.0 knock and car was running like a raped ape.

hope you got your bad fuel issue fixed. I didn't know we were getting bad fuel in our area

I have a BAMA tune, I don't have a clue how to read what those graphs say, but the way you guys are talking is making me nervous

Fightermatt go to SCTs site and get the instructions on datalogging. Datalog it and then send the logs to your tuner for review.

My pleasure! I know the Bama Team will be able to get this symptom squared away for you. I've already sent over your information to them and they're reviewing your tune before giving you a call. You can expect a call from them within the next 24 business hours, too. Also, if you could replicate the problem while datalogging the car, that would be optimum.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you in the meantime!

Shane

fightermatt,

If you would like, I'd be happy to get you in contact with one of our lead Bama Tuning Specialists. They'll walk you through the datalogging process and review your logs afterwards. Then tweaks your tune accordingly, if necessary.

Send me your First/Last name and shipping address. I'll get you taken care of!

Shane
