ive been thinking about going back there soon, ive been on both sides its quite a sight. on the american side they have a thing where you can walk down the falls on little wooden stairways I cant remember what it was called but its defintely fun. You get all suited up in raincoats and then they take you down and you get soaked. Going on the "maid of the mist" is a must too.

almost every single post here says the canada side is better.

I will say the same :D went in december and it was really a good trip. stayed at the hilton for the weekend with 3 others in a jacuzzi suite. it was a bit cold then (though for december it was pretty mild), but i would assume this time of year you could walk just about anywhere. We drove so we didnt freeze our asses off. Im not much of a gambler, but I won $200 at the casino after putting $8 in. I was happy about that.

Went a few years ago randomly (was in the middle of a road trip with no destination) and had a blast..we were only around for 4 hours.

We got into Canada and BACK without passports..weird. We were 18/19 years old at the time..so we went had some drinks at this upscale golf course restaurant and bought some alcohol before we venture back into America..haha. Was a good time and the view of Niagra falls in person is absolutely intense!

Back then you didn't need a passport to drive across. They changed that fairly recently.

I just checked..we went summer of 08 and it was changed in 09..just in time! haha

Funny thing is, we both have passports..we just didn't have it with us, we weren't expecting we would be anywhere close to leaving the country when we started this road trip, lol

Those are the best ones. My wife and I did something similar a couple of summers ago but we had a rough plan.

Thanks for the input guys, unfortunately there isn't enough time to get Canadian visa in time so NY side will have to do. Falls are the main reason for going so I guess Seneca Niagara Casino is the best NY has to offer.

I also forgot, there is a HUGE outlet shopping center about 1.5 hrs south of Niagara Falls, in Erie, PA. People even from the Canadian side make day trips to go there, I personally have never been but it's apparently pretty awesome if you like shopping.

There's also a huge outlet center in the falls, US side. Busloads of Canadians go there.
EDIT: I also forgot about the galleria mall right off the 90 in Cheektowaga. Tons of canucks go there regularly as well.

I grew up in Buffalo, about 30min south of the falls so I went up there a lot.

As the others said, the US and Canadian sides are two different worlds. The Canadian side is one big tourist trap. All the usual crap. The upside is tons of hotels, bars, and clubs. Great nightlife. On the US side you only have the Seneca casino, which I've been told has some great concerts now and then. The parks on the US side are much better as well if you're into that. Another big upside is things are much cheaper stateside. Taxes in Ontario are crazy, and the state controls all beer/liquor sales. Prices are outrageous for drinks in Canada.

There's also some very nice restaurants up in the falls. I forget the name of the one Italian place, but I think it was up on 104, closer to Lewiston. There's also a place on a ridge near Lewiston that has an insane view overlooking the Niagara river gorge. It's full of massive houses, and used to be called "Mafia row" since several notable mafia men used to own houses up there, as well as Sinatra. I think there's also a nice golf course there, but I don't play much.

Down the 190 there's quite a bit in Buffalo as well. Lots of historical buildings, tons of bars/phenomenal restaurants, awesome small venues for bands, all depending on what you're into. I definitely recommend the Pearl St Grill and Brewery. It's not too far off the 190 in Buffalo, and they have incredible food and their own in-house brewed beer. You can even tour the brewery. Other notable places there include the chophouse (high end steak), Duff's (wings) and the Anchor Bar. Of course I honestly don't think you can get better pizza and wings anywhere else in the country, and just about any pizzaria on the corner is going to be great. Have some wings or chicken fingers there and then you'll be disappointed anytime you try some places "buffalo chicken" anywhere else. :rolling:
