I will be taking a trip to see the falls, and Canadian side isn't an option because I am going with a tourist that has US visa only. Share some nice hotels with me please, places to eat, things to see (besides falls), etc etc. Also, must be near the falls for the convenience sake, something with a view is a plus....

Good places to stay for a few nights?

Money isn't a concern really, but don't recommend some P. Diddy style nonsense either...

Thanks a lot in advance!

I went there a few years ago but we stayed on Canadian side. I do remember seeing a few decent hotels on the US side, one had some fancy lighting on it, I'll try and find it for you.

The US side has a nice park and veiwing area.

Seneca Niagara is the one I remember seeing from Canadian side.

I live on the Canadian side, I gotta say they are WORLDS apart, almost 'wrong side of the tracks' type situation. While the Canadian side is fully built up for tourists, dozens of high rise hotels, 2 casino's and tons of entertainment and venues; the American side is SEVERELY lacking :/

The highlight of the American side is definitely the Seneca Casino and hotel, the Sheraton At The Falls hotel might be one of the better ones over on that side as well, both are only a few minutes from the actual falls themselves. I don't think any of the hotels on that side offer a "Fallsview" from the rooms, they are too far back inland to really see anything, there is however an observation tower that stretches out over the American Falls. Link here

Run of the mill chain hotels The Days Inn is probably the CLOSEST to the falls of any of them, but the big name ones are all relatively close

Seneca casino/Sheraton at the falls These hotels are by far much nicer than the ones listed above, it's an Indian Casino (as much of the area was run by the natives, as you can tell from some of the area/city names)

There is some shopping in the area, Fashion Outlets only about a 10 minute drive from any of those hotels, like any outlet stores its last season type stuff, part indoor and part outdoor strip mall. There is also the larger Walden Galleria mall, it has 2 levels and something like 80-100 stores and is about 25 minutes from those hotels.

The area in general is pretty slummy, gas station doors are locked until the attendant buzzes you in type deal, etc. Much of the Niagara Falls / Buffalo area use to be heavy industry/factory driven but it's been along time since it has seen any big "booms".

Overall, if it is at all possible for your travel buddy to apply for access to Canada (not sure what is required based on their situation), you will have a much better time on this side with a lot more things to "see and do". I've had a few friends from abroad here in Canada on a student/working VISA and many of them just need to stop at the boarder for 15 minutes for some application and then they can come and go as long as they have whatever 'special pass' is handed out. This of course is Canada -> USA, I'm not sure how it works the other way around unfortunately.

If you have any other questions let me know

I've been to the Falls and as Rust0r said, the Canadian side is much, much nicer. I wouldn't really even want to waste money on the American side unless I was there for just one night. Definitely see what your tourist friend can do about getting a visa to enter Canada.

I stayed in the Marriot too! It looks like the same room/veiw. Another good thing about the canadian side is the beer, it was nice and cold and delicous.

Lol hope your friend gets their passport together, because I too will mention the Canadian side is the only way to go. And you get to smoke Cuban cigars while taking in the views and passing "Eh"s of Canadian locals!

I lived in Niagara Falls, NY for several years as a wee lad. The American side blew back then too compared to the Canadian side. I went back there a couple of years ago on a road trip to Canada to visit my wife's family and stayed a couple of nights. It was awesome, and nothing has changed as far as which side is best. It's not even close.

Definitely +1 on this

I would honestly suggest taking your friend somewhere else within the USA if you can't get them over to the Canadian side. The Niagara falls are "COOL" but keep in mind, once you see them, you've seen them, then you become dependent on things in the area to see and do. At that point, the American side just has local bars, malls, etc, the exact same things you have in your area, not exactly a great vacation IMO.

Basically the Canadian side is built up like the Las Vegas strip, tons of things to do and enjoy, the American side, is like going to your downtown slums of whatever city you live in, not much to do, and you wanna leave pretty fast.

I hope you don't take it the wrong way, I don't think anyone here is trying to put a damper on your vacation, we just don't want to see you and your tourist friend waste vacation time or money on something that we all feel you won't enjoy.

As mentioned above, the Canadian side is WAY better. I live about an hour away. I usually go over there a few times a year. It is amazing.

I've never stayed on the American side of the falls. I've always just gone across the boarder. Soo much more to do and soo much more to see.

You'll be pretty close to me! Like stated....the Canadian side is a thousand times better. Sucks that you can't go to the Canadian side for the true/better experience.

Subscribed. Headed there in a couple weeks. We were supposed to go last month but the gf's passport was getting renewed and we definitely wanted to go over to the Canada side. From the sounds of it, i'm glad we waited.

We stayed at Seneca Niagra few years ago.

They screwed our reservations up severely and ended up giving us a jacuzzi suite at the normal room rate for the three days we stayed.

Plus the room service pizza was probably the best pizza I've ever had.

We spent time sleeping and um..sleeping at the Hotel. All of our vertical time we spent in Canada.

I lived in Niagara Falls for 4 years. I will also echo that the Canadian is better in terms of the touristy stuff. If you don't mind a little bit of a drive, take a ride down to Buffalo and check out the Anchor Bar. It's the place that created buffalo wings.

Check out the Love Canal and the ghost town next to it. If you've never heard of it, google it. It's pretty interesting what took place there.

Jet Boat tours in Lewiston are really fun if they've got those up and running. allows you to check out the whirlpool that has formed just south of the Falls.

Seneca Niagara Casino is a good time. Great buffet too.

Ft. Niagara State Park is very nice.
