New to s550 and have 2 questions

It may sound stupid, but after searching the forum and internet and reading manual I still wonder if there are benefits of using 93 octane vs recommended by ford 87. Stock 2016 m6.
Second question is how do I tell if I have 3.31 or 3.55 gears?

The ECU is tuned to run 87-93 octane. The higher the octane you run the hp you'll get out of the car. So let's say average number to flywheel is 435 on 93, if you run 87, it may be only making 425. The higher the octane guarantees the best performance out of the car.

+1 for the gas. Normal gears are the 3.31, PP has 3.73 and there is an option for the 3.55. If the window sticker does not show the 3.55 option then you will have 3.31. Can you get the 3.55 on the manual? People always go for the PP since the 3.55s are $400 or so.

If you don't have the window sticker than the door sticker will have an AXL code. Mine is BB, meaning I have 3.73s

Most engine control units on cars today should have the capability to advance timing closer and closer to maximum theoretical torque until the knock sensors indicate preignition or detonation. Running higher octane fuel will allow for higher cylinder pressures and temps before the gas ignites. I always put 93 or better in my 5.0, but I only run premium in my F150 or Jeep when they are towing or it's just hot and nasty outside. Engine coolant, air intake temp, oil temp, can all act to retard ignition timing and increase/reduce fuel use. My info is from the early 2000s. As I understand it, engine control strategies have come a long way.

Thanks everyone. I called the dealer and gave them my VIN. I have 3.31 Going to try 93 octane and see if I can notice a difference. I am trying hard not to start modding, with at least an H-pipe, intake and a dyno tune. Will see how long I will last before I surrender to the mod bug.
