new to cobras

just got a 2001 drop top with a 100.000 on it motor looks brand new so dose all the gaskets got it used from a dealer and they did not let me in on the fact if it had a rebuild or not car runs strong i just had a 03 gt full bolt on and this car would kill it just wondering what waight of oil and type u guys would recomend and what i should do to the car i have a tunner from my old car so i put it on

I have always used Mobil 1 FS 10w30 :shrug:

Really? The cap from this car and my old 00' V6 both say 5w20 on them... I run mobil 1 as well, but I figure'd I'd leave it up to him whether he ran synthetic or not.

wrong and wrong. ford switched all of their engines(except the 4.0L in the rangers and 05+ v6 mustang) to 5w-20 in 2001. with that said, 99 cobras call for a 5w-30/10w-30 while 01 cobras call for 5w-20. keep in mind that nothing internally changed from the 99 cobra motor to the 01. the 520 switch was solely for meeting fuel economy standards, not better motor protection. therefore i would never recommend you run 5w-20 in a performance car. 03/04's call for 520 as well, but i stick with Mobil 5w-30 for mine....

You run Castrol. I'm running the full synthetic. And 6 quarts is fine. I add 1 quart at 2000 miles and change at 4,000. I don't think there is a problem here.

I thought it was 96-98 that got 10w30 and 99's got 5w30, then in 01' 5w20
