Well I have been waiting for almost 5 months to get this motor back from the builder to make a thread and here it is. Short background was I bought the car last February with a built motor......Stock block, diamond pistons(stock comp), stock rods, stock crank, ARP throughout. Car made 701/763 on 20psi through a Turbonetics 7668. I put almost 2,000 miles on it and the motor grenaded at the track on my second pass. Turns out their were some assembly errors during the prior build.

Stock block was done and not reuseable because this piston couldnt take anymore abuse.

New build consists of a Teksid block .030, Wiseco -6cc Forged Pistons, Wisecos ring pack, New manley H-beams with ARP2000 rod bolts, Arp Main studs and ARP side bolts. The previous crank was cut too much and not reuseable so I used a factory 98 cobra crank.

The heads are stock but the valves were damaged and some of the chambers were pitted from debri. Manley stainless valves were installed after a valve job. I also removed the stock intake cams and replaced them with 98 cobra intake cams for a low budget add on to help spool the turbo and little faster and maybe add a few horsepower.

Gonna throw 16-17psi at this motor with 93+24gph of 100% VP M1 Methanol and hopefully make low 700s.

I had a good amount of blow by prior to it popping. I attribute the detonation to oil contamination in the cylinders. The assembly done by the prior engine builder wasnt exactly the best from what I was told.

Looks great. I had a similar result when my meth injection lost prime during a track pass which ran it lean and torched #7 piston. The piston came out looking like yours. Had to find another Teksid block as well.

Are you sticking with the 7668?

Those heads look great!

Thanks, they turned out a lot better then I thought since they were damaged some.

I got the rear main seal, new oil pump and pickup tube, oil pan, head studs and heads on the motor. We swapped out the intake cams as well for the 96-98 cams. Hopefully tomorrow I will get the timing chains on and every other part I can so it's closer to making its way in the car.

Put ARP cam bolts and hardened washers on while it's being assembled. It's another weak spot that could be a major problem. Good luck with the build.

Put ARP bolts on those too dude. I had a factory one shear and cause some major damage as seen in the picture above. It's about 10 minutes to swap them out when the engine is on a stand.

any more updates?
Got it fired up on the first try. I think I messed up and put a clutch disk in backwards at 2am when I did it so I gotta yank the trans back out. Clutch isn't fully disengaging now and that's all we can think of. That will be fixed in the next day or two.

nice work. sucks about having to pull the transmission but thats not too bad. if that was your only hiccup in this swap i would say your still doing well.

Got it all together and put 70 miles on it tonight. So far so good and after 10 months not driving it it felt great. I've never struggled so hard not to go wot but it shouldn't take too long to put 600 miles on it.
