After being out of a mustang for about 3 years, it was time to get back into one. My first car was a fox, and now I just traded my WRX in for this 99 Cobra. It has 97k miles on it but is in pristine condition and is factory stock other than tint.

Would post pics but since I am new it will not allow them yet.

This will be my DD so I will be staying pretty mild on this car. What should my first set of mods be to get me started?

I have always gone to Mitchell Motorsports in Largo. That was pretty much the idea of parts I had as well as suspension and some wheels.

1 short throw shifter.......i like steeda or mgw

2 gears 4.10's or 4.30's

3 sticky set of tire's

4 catless mid-pipe (x-pipes make a little more power but h-pipes sound better imo)

5 catback system ( if you just want a nice deep tone get a chamberd system if you want to wake up the dead lol get something like a borla stinger or sss kit)

6 lowering springs........i like h&r or eibach's

but thats just my 2 cents............congrats on your new cobra i think you will love the 4v.....i know i do!!!

One thing I've noticed right away, is it common for these cars to produce a clunk coming from the rear diff when taking off? I've never messed around with the IRS in one of these so I have no idea.

Gotcha. Bill Mitchell, not "the" Bill Mitchell, but he's a freakin genius with cars. He was the sole mechanic for a camaro a while back that held the DR world record.

+1 on what he said but I am a X pipe fan.
I have never noticed a clunk coming from the IRS when taking off. It just may be the bushings going bad.
Congrats on the new Cobra. You will love it more so than you imagined. Get Pics ASAP!!!!

I'll start shopping around for some bushings and a shifter since I noticed that the cup holder is useless with the stock shifter haha.

Congrats on the new car. I personally would get rid of the 4x4 look first. Great looking car. And welcome to the board.

Wow, that's one of the most still original 99's I have ever seen. If you keep it as it is and invest in some llyods parchment mats, you might just have one hell of a collector car one day.
I say throw on a catback and midpipe... Keep the stock stuff...
Get a new shifter... keep the stock stuff..
and throw some gears in the rear.
End.

Nice looking Cobra OP:beer: For a DD go with all that ^ and either 4:30's or 4:56's. If the bushings are shot in the IRS go with Full Tilt Boogie Racing Shopping Cart

haha 4.56's might be a little too much since I have to commute about 30-40 miles a day for work, if I do any gear it will more than likely be 4.10s. I just want to get a good tune-up on it then it's time to start shopping!
