been lurking here for ever figured this would make a good first post just came from the gt500 forums ! so here goes .....

after my 11 gt500 got hit and totaled out. Im looking for a new ride going to stick with a gt 5.0 this time around must have an AUTOMATIC. So my question is what year should i go with 11-16 seems like all the low miles used cars here in utah are mid 25k range for 50plus thousand miles ( i think thats crazy but,, ) i can get a new base gt for around 30k. so the difference so far i have researched is.

2011-12 autos take a bit of work if you want to put paddle shifters in it
2013-14 ready to go for paddles if u like same tranny and motors in both give or take the tune from the dealer, 11vs 14 anyway
form what i am understanding the 2011-14 can handle around 600 rwhp or so safely.

2015-16 have researched motors are different , shares most the components form the boss 302 forged pieces and bottom end handling 700 rwhp plus safely ( more boost friendly motor )

also have read numerous times i DO NOT want the perforce pack or the track pack ( older models ) due to the torsen for the (drag strip ) which is where this car will spend alot of time.

goals for the car Daily driver on the nice days and weekend drag racer street and strip. personal goal i want to run in the 10's someday as my gt500 was only 11s the car will get boost ( vmp or twin turbo undecided there )

so whats the better car to go with factoring in the price differences on the cars ?
thanks for the advice guys..

Base model 2014 gt is what you want , easy to mod and many parts readily available. 15/16 models harder to mod especially changing gears in the irs rear. Less parts available then the 14. Start your search at either www.carguru.com or www.carmax.com.

If you want a 14 you are going to be stuck taking whats available I think. I bought my 14 in May of 2014 and it was a base model gt for $29k. They weren't getting any other 14's in and you could order 15's. If I was buying another one right now I would look for a 15 auto base model. The engines are much stronger out of the gate. Throw a turbo on it and boom.

Yeah but the excess weight of the 15 gt makes it slower then the 14.

Another thing to consider on the 15-16 is the cost of upgrading the half shafts which is not cheap and might be necessary if you're planning on running 10's. Otherwise I'd be leaning more to a used 15.

I'm biassed towards the 2013-2014, they look best to me and to be honest its "easy" for any 2011+ auto GT to run 10's. Select the power adder of your liking and and a set of good drag tires and you are there.

You want to avoid an IRS if you want to launch your car hard. Case in point, the 2015 Cobra jet and the COPO Camaro have been converted to a solid axle. I have a 2014 GT 5.0, last of the solid axle muscle cars. My recommendation is to stick with the S197 design. Hence 2010 -2014. IMO the best old school replication.

I was waiting for the 2015's to come out to buy a new one...but once I saw how bad the wheel hop was and how many were snapping half shafts at the track, I opted for a solid axle 2014 GT without regret. I picked up a loaded late model 2014 with the 2015 heads (15 more HP) with 5k miles for 28,000. New was 42,000

And the 2014's are faster :) Here's my bone stock 2014 beating a modified 2015 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5ok8LEnGwQ

With a 2014 all you need is a tune, circle d and maybe lower control arms to run 11's.

Saw you said 13-14 are ready to go for paddle shifters, not sure how you'd do that. The selectshift is fun but not as satisfying as physically shifting gears or paddle shifters.

Get a 15-16.

To not get a 15-16 because the half shafts might break etc... is goofy. 11-12s also have weaknesses.

IMHO The newer models are all around better cars - engine, suspension etc...

I gotta agree with you... If I were in the market for a new Mustang I cant see buying one from last generation. Ok a S550 will need shafts, but the motor will handle 200 more whp and its an all around better car to drive in.

I feel it depends on how much you care about having a nicer interior and your intended use. The 15 drives better on the street and in curves, the 14 is hands down better in a straight line.

The interior of the 15 is a pretty significant upgrade. Besides just looking and feeling nicer there is a ton more knee room. Also not that anyone uses the rear seats, but the rear seats have curtain air bags in 15 but not 13-14. Important if u have kids that'll be cruising with u!
