Hey guys, long story short. Real short. I bought a new magnaflow x pipe last year and can not get it sealed at the stock manifolds. The passenger side keeps blowing out. I have reinstalled three times but the felpro gasket continues to blow out!

I finally got magnaflow to replace the x pipe under warranty. They have great CS and that is the only bight spot as of now. I have had mustangs for most of my life and usually do most of my own work, but this is driving my nuts!

I have the new pipe, and new gasket, and even might try a little Locktite 5920 on the set up.

Here's my main question. Do you think the factory manifold could be the issue. When I took the mid pipe that came with the car off I noticed the previous owner had used some gasket making material.

Any insight would be great. Anybody else ever have an issue like this?

^ Had the same problem myself with stock manifolds. I used high-temp rtv sealer on both sides of the gasket a couple months ago and so far so good. Someone here may have a better solution. I wouldnt put locktight on the flange nuts.

Agreed. It is a Locktight form a gasket for high temp exhaust situations.

This is the legendary spot where they always leak. When I had my stock manifolds and I put my O/RX on, I bought the new gasket and prayed for the best. Surprisingly it never leaked. I never dealt with a magnaflow x pipe but maybe the original one that you got was a little off and the new one will be better?

The tiny spot welds on the gasket are what comes apart. Or maybe the fact I am running a little xtra boost! haha

I am running a Whip 2.3@ 19 lbs with all supporting mods. CAI, exhaust, fuel, blah blah blah.

I want headers, but just not ready to take the plunge. I want to go coil overs at same time if I do that.

So is the problem that the nut backs off, or the gasket is junk??

Aren't the MagnaFlow X-pipes a one piece unit? Maybe the pipe needs a little twist to seat properly...? I would like a one piece but feared of fitment quirks and opted for a modular unit.

I believe I have figured this out possibly. Not sure all aftermarket mid pipes are the same, but the magnaflow has a stub or riser piece on the passenger side. It is welded inside the flange. The factory manifold has a reverse recessed area and they mate together. I hope I described that well enough.

Anyways, that stub is too long and it is bottoming out on the manifold before the gasket has a chance to seal. I will take some pics so you guys can understand what I am saying.

So now either I trim it down, or wait on a new pipe. Problem is I already spent 60 bucks on this one for AF bosses to be welded in.
