Was wondering how you got the nice clear pic at night, then saw it was with a Canon 30d with a 2.8 aperture lens. Turned out great

I cheated.
400 ISO and using the light from the fireworks to light up the subject (and to help with auto focusing).

400 ISO on a 30d is still low, what metering mode where you using? Prob could have even used 800 ISO. I just sold my Rebel XTi and picked up the
40d, very impressed so far.

Was using evaluative metering but partial metering might have worked well also. Currently borrowing a friends film camera (off topic here), my lenses work on it so this should be a fun change up for me (never tried film before).

That second pic is pretty cool, too bad there wasn't more color though. Some green or blue would have been great against that sky.

We did a little light painting too, (made a signature for another forum i frequent).
