Mustang Week 2012 : SVTPerformance.com/Discount Tire Direct Burnout Competitionhttp://www.svtperformance.com/forum...discount-tire-direct-burnout-competition.htmlhttp://www.svtperformance.com/forum...discount-tire-direct-burnout-competition.htmlhttp://www.svtperformance.com/forum...discount-tire-direct-burnout-competition.htmlhttp://www.svtperformance.com/forum...discount-tire-direct-burnout-competition.html
http://www.svtperformance.com/forum...discount-tire-direct-burnout-competition.htmlThe 2012 SVTPerformance.com/Discount Tire Direct Burnout Competition was easily the most exciting one yet. Not only did we have the typical blown tires, but we also had five cars overheat (largely due to the higher temperatures this year). An SN-95 5.0 GT even managed to blow off his upper radiator hose.
The competitors, which included a lot of familiar faces from years past, put on an excellent show for record crowd of spectators. All contestants received a gift pack courtesy of SVTP Vendor Discount Tire Direct. Two-time defending champion Chris Wood was among the competitors, this time with his green SN-95 GT. While he did transform his tires into prodigious amounts of thick white smoke, his run was unfortunately cut short due to overheating.
For 2012 Jonathan Nerren piloted his black New-Edge Saleen GT to victory. Towards the end of his smoke filled run he too started to experience overheating issue, but he then surprised the crowd by stopping to throw t-shirts to them. That may have been just what he needed to put him over the edge and win the grand prize, a $500 gift certificate to Discount Tire Direct.
Many of the competitors assured me that they'll be back for the 2013 edition of the SVTP/DTD Burnout Contest, and quite a few people from the crowd said they wanted to give it a try next year as well. As hard as it will be to top, the way things are going 2013 is shaping up to be even better than 2012. I look forward to it.
Until then, take a look at the pics 5th Annual Mustang Week SVTPerformance.com/Discount Tire Direct Burnout Competition. We had two photographers on hand this year, one at each end of the front stretch. Lighting wasn't as good for photos as last year, but I think we managed to get a few good shots. They are in no particular order, but I think you'll get the idea (turn tires into smoke):
