I've heard the quiet borla is a good option to avoid the highway speed drone sound. For now I'm going to leave my stock H-Pipe alone, will I be okay with a magnaflow on the drone sound?

Also which performs better, I'll sacrifice a little sound to pick up a few horses.

The magnaflow appears to be the cheaper option also.

My car has the stock H and magnaflow catback, it's not loud at all, but has a nice tone. No drone at all, and the catback is stainless steal. If your running the stock H no mufflers should really give you a problem unless they were LM1s or something to that nature.

I drove my car about 2-2500 to Houston for Tx2k10 with my stock H and Magnaflows. Wasn't bad whatsoever. No drone, and it sounded great at WOT.

I've had both with cats and the quiet Borla is the better of the two. More bass to the exhaust but not overbearing by any means. Both growl pretty good at wot. All high performance exhaust drone some. It is slightly more noticeable with the Borla, but it's because at lower RPM the Borla is a bit louder. At idle, Borla wins by a mile.

Are power gains the same between the two?

I'm looking at a deal on advance auto parts website for 20% store wide. I can pick up the magnaflow from them for 468.79 shipped. The borla is almost double the price...

The power would be pretty much identical. Mandrel bent tubing is the major advantage over stock.

How was the magnaflow catback with the stock H ?

I just picked up a used one and I'm going to install it this weekend with my stock H and see how it sounds. Maybe I'll post a clip.

I got the Borlas and they have a very sweet, deep sound. Very clean, no rasp or popping. They are louder than stock for sure but after a while you will get used to it and think it is quiet compared to other aftermarket kits. Moderate drone at 2K RPM, sweet V-8 sound at all other RPMs.

I had the Bassani setup on another DOHC4.6 and they didn't drone at all because of the baffles in the tips. So if drone is your main concern, look at the Bassani. But I prefer the Borla cat back overall for unique looks and sound.

LTs, no cats and magnaflows here.

The magnaflows sound pretty "muffled" at idle and and when you're driving around normally. The average pickup with chambered mufflers are much louder under the normal conditions. My buddies 04 with only a Stinger catback is much much louder at idle/driving around. I prefer the magnaflows because:

1. No drone because it's muffled. Just the "V8 beat" when you go up a hill.
2. Don't attract too much attention.

However, as soon as I go above 25% throttle it is LOUD. (The LTs might make my argument a little moot but) any straight through muffler is going to roar like hell at WOT.

Other have said it before, the magnaflows may be too quiet for you... but for my LTs and no cats.... couldn't be happier

May be a bit unrelated because of LTs and lack of cats but me and a grey 04 w/ stinger CB... don't even hear him lol
