I just went from a nto5r to an r888 2 days ago, but I can't answer how they compare cause my clutch is slipping bad after the install. The one thing I can tell you is the car had a sway like feeling with the nitto when driving, but now it drives real smooth with the toyo.

Hoosier drag radials (I believe they makes18s). Hooks up everything even when I spray my ported car. I wont bother with another tire

I don't plan on going to the track, I I did or didn't do the gears would the r888 still be the best option?

for mostly street driving without corner performance being sacrificed, the R888 is a better choice in my view (keep to around 27" diameter)

for max straight line traction M&H or MT

I still think the Nitto's were a better all around tire than the R888's. The 888's looked cooler and the tread wear was slightly better, but the Nitto's were quieter, stickier and last pretty dam long. I've never had a DR that was as good "all around" as the Nitto and I've tried just about all of them.
For flat out uncompramised traction, MT or M&H; for street use with descent wear and descent traction Nitto > Toyo. For a show car with every detail covered, the R888's have a pretty dam cool looking tread pattern....

If you are not using them on the track and have a lot of street use, the Nitto NT05's is your best option. I don't know of another tire that has more traction that last as long as the Nitto NT05's

I think I am leaning towards the Toyo r888 305/35/18 as I can't go any wider on my stock 09 wheels. The nitto 305/45/18 would be too tall and would feel gearing change.

What psi was on that tire? What gears were being used? Great picture!

Back to subject, NT05R are drag radials which is really more for straight line performance. These are recommended for street use and are very good at that but not recommended for aggressive cornering. Toyo r888 are made for cornering, they are sticky and they are a very good wet tire.

That was 18psi with 3.73's. with the amount of sidewall that they have, the tire remind you real quick that they are a straight line tire once you hit some twisties. I have INVO's on 20 for those cravings and they do ok...............just ok.
