Need to get a winter reliable vehicle and found a 2000 ranger with 105,000 well taken care of owner will take 3300 bottom price. Is that a good deal and are these trucks realible? I've seen all good reviews online. Seems like a good deal. Thanks

01 and newer Rangers got the SOHC engine, which has a lot more power. 01 and newer, mayber some 2000 trucks, got rid of the pulse vacuum hubs for a live axle. Slight MPG hit, but way more reliable. Rangers have some stupid resale lately, that price sounds pretty good for the low miles for the year.

my 96 Ranger was hands down the most bullet proof truck I ever owned. I sold it with about 280k on it still running like a champ. The day I sold it I would have driven it anywhere.

Get the 4.0 L I recently bought a 2000 ranger with the 3.0 and its a slow turd. As long as I stay off the highway it's not bad. Trying to get up to 65 and merge doesn't work out very good. Also have to almost keep WOT to stay around 75 mph

If you can find a 2001+ 4.0, go for that. The 4.0 ohvs were not bad, just kinda dogs. I have had 3 in my family, I have a 11 4.0 4x4 and had a 96 2.3 2wd. My dad had a 01 4.0 4x4. Never had an issue. I also had a 96 Explorer Sport 4.0 ohv that ran great even after it took out 8 trees.

Any Ranger with any engine is a good choice. Will last forever with the basic maintenance. Seen some in the 300k range that were used as postal vehicles and a few that were used for long haul power company foremans.

I have a 2001 ranger with the 4.0 and it's been a solid truck. As long as its been properly maintained I say go for it.

I'd say you're good to go. Love the 4.0 OHV engine. Nice and torquey for a little truck like the ranger. The truck itself is very reliable.

I've got a 92 with a 2.3. Pretty fun little truck, with a few mods its sees 22+ mpg city. They make good dailys. Especially a 4x4 if you have bad winters.

Sounds like you need to do a compression check. Op my dad also have a 2001 ranger 3.0 it has about 230k. The thing runs like a champ and has been reliable. I don't think resale value isn't too bad either.

The 4.0 ohv in my '95 Explorer is bulletproof. Only concern would be head gaskets, but mine's at 248k since the first and only head gasket change at 100k....348k and still going strong.

I daily drove an 89 2.3l 8 plug for about a two years with 250k miles on it when I sold it, it was a hunk of shit but it never ever needed worked on, started every time. Then I just sold my 2001 this year that had the 2.5 4 cylinder 8 plug bullshit this summer. I daily drove it for 3 years, put 53k miles on it and again they are incredibly reliable. I never ever had a single problem with it other than general maintenance, oil changes, brakes, U-joints. Sold it with 185k miles on it, I drove it everywhere, didn't matter if it was 2 minutes to the gas station or 5 hours out of state to pick up car parts, I knew it would never let me down and it didn't disappoint. They're bulletproof trucks!
