The recalls are yet to be published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration but according to stop-sale orders sent to dealers this week, and seen by Automotive News (subscription required), they cover problems with airbags and parking brake cables on the latest Corvette.

The airbag-related problem concerns the driver’s side airbag, which the stop-sale order says could separate from the steering wheel in a crash, increasing the potential for injuries. The solution is for dealers to replace the airbag but there could be delays as parts are not available.

I think Ford has done more Recalls than GM. A friend showed me this around 3 days ago because of a discussion similar to this one.

NOTE! Severity of recalls not taken into account.

Here’s full list of least and most recalled car lines since 1985, with the given recall rate being relative to sales registered in the U.S. from 1980 forward:

Mercedes-Benz USA: 2.1 million recalled/5.2 million sold; 0.41 recall rate.

Mazda Motor Corp: 5.2 million recalled/9.4 million sold; 0.55 recall rate.

General Motors: 99.3 million recalled/153.2 million sold; 0.65 recall rate.

Nissan North America: 19.1 million recalled/26.8 million sold; 0.71 recall rate.

Subaru of America: 4.3 million recalled/6.0 million sold; 0.73 recall rate.

Kia Motors: 3.7 million recalled/4.9 million sold; 0.77 recall rate.

Toyota Motor Corp: 38.6 million recalled/48.1 million sold; 0.80 recall rate.

BMW of North America: 5.1 million recalled/5.7 million sold; 0.90 recall rate.

Ford Motor Co: 97.0 million recalled/104.7 million sold; 0.93 recall rate.

American Honda Motor Co: 31.1 million recalled/32.9 million sold; 0.94 recall rate.

Chrysler Group: 63.2 million recalled/63.2 million sold; 1.00 recall rate.

Volvo Cars of North America: 3.3 million recalled/3.1 million sold; 1.05 recall rate.

Volkswagen of America: 10.2 million recalled/9.7 million sold; 1.06 recall rate.

Mitsubishi Motors North America: 5.3 million recalled/4.8 million sold; 1.09 recall rate.

Hyundai Motor Co: 9.9 million recalled/8.7 million sold; 1.15 recall rate.

Note: This version corrects a data error originally supplied to us regarding Mercedes-Benz sales since 1980.

From what it was explained to me, some vehicles needed to be recalled multiple times and they counted that. Will link this to my friend and hopefully he can explain it. :D

How about graph of the last 10 years? Pointless to add recalls of 20+ years ago when car sales are a lot bigger now than they were before.

Also keep in mind that these current GM recalls are safety recalls not a loss power recall like the Cobra had in 99.

Ah that would make sense, didnt even think of that.

And some of those sales figures look low. Honda has only sold 33m vehicles? Honda has probably sold 33 million oddysey minivans alone.

Meh, all manufacturers have recalls, Porsche has one on the 918 and can't forget the fiasco with the 991 GT3 with the stop sale and engine replacements. Lamborghini and Ferrari have some too.

THAT'S the bottom line. As noted, Ford has had it's high share of recalls as well. Sucks for owners usually, when it happens, due to the inconvenience. At least major issues are getting fixed.

Well it's quite obvious things go wrong and it's quite obvious GM isn't the only car manufacturer that has them. However GM has had almost 50 different recall issues that result to nearly 30 million cars world wide in less than ONE year... That's a lot of shit to let slip past your doors.

Do you even quality check bro?

Didn't Ford get out of recalling 20+ million cars by sending stickers to warn the owners of their junk transmission? Or the 15 million recalled for faulty cruise control switches? At least GM is remedying the situation.

The two big ones I remember for Ford (aside from Firestone) were the cruise control brake switch on F150 (burn your house down if in the garage), and the 70's LTD transmission (car would jump into reverse while parked and running).

We actually had an LTD that did that.

Dad was warming it up in the garage with the door open and we looked outside to see that it had run itself into a tree.

I don't think the car went to Ford for a fix, he just got rid of it after that..

I see you have an aversion to facts ... not real surprising. PLUS without taking the severity of the issued into account this list is 100% worthless.

"While many automakers have announced major recalls this year, General Motors has contributed to nearly three-fourths of the 2014 figure. This year, GM has recalled over 28.5 million vehicles worldwide. Its latest recall involved over 7.6 million cars in the U.S., and over 8.45 million in North America".
