I need some help with planning a trip for my parents to las vegas.

They have never been, and neither have I so this is a total shot in the dark for me without any help. Basically, I'm looking at a weekend get-a-way type thing that would probably be a 3-night/4-day package.

I need hotel suggestions, and also am trying to figure out if buying a "package" deal off of kayak, travelocity, etc. etc. is the way to go.

Initial search looks to be anywhere from $450-$700 dollars per person. Does that sound about right? If it matters, I'm looking for anytime 1st quarter of next year.

My main concern is that I just want them to be able to go, relax, and not have to worry about taking care of something that could have been setup beforehand, if that makes any sense.

Thanks guys

I think they would enjoy the The Signature at MGM. If I see any packages Ill post them up.

Try to stay somewhere central. So that they don't have to walk for miles to get anywhere. Also want them to stay somewhere safe. I would recommend the Wynn or Bellagio.

All the cirque du suleil shows are on sale right now! There usually very expensive so nows a good time to take advantage of that.

Also get the basic Vegas handout book and look for the free shows. They happen at all different hours of the day and some of them are excellent.

Excalibur has an all you can eat buffet for like $25, which is good for the whole day! But only do this if your poor, food is mediocre.

Do you think they will go gamble a lot or will they want to be in a hotel where they can relax? I ask because I've stayed at the MGM Signature hotels and they are nice. There are no casinos in them, so it's quieter down stairs (but you can go down stairs and take a people mover next door to the MGM Grand if they want to gamble/go to restaurants/shop). The Palazzo is a real nice one, it's relatively new (maybe 2-3 years old) and is really nice.

As far as packages, not sure if they are a good deal and what not, never looked into them. I always just get a room and party/gamble all down the strip. The shopping is awesome in the Venetian and Caesars Palace.

And like SNIPERDOG said, ALWAYS bet on black! I live by the sword, but more often die by the sword lol

I stayed at MGM and it was fairly priced and the new rooms were awesome. For 3 nights it was like 650 or something for two people...but that was in june.

This map doesn't zoom in enough in my opinion. Make sure the hotel is on Las Vegas Blvd

When I was walking around, I found Bellagio to be the most northern I would walk, but if I was down the strip excalibur is the furthest I would go.
Don't try and save money by staying at stratosphere or hooters, you will lose out when paying for taxis.
What are you intentions when going to the Las Vegas Strip?
-gambling?
-shows? which ones? May get a discount if you book rooms with them.
-?

Thanks for the tips so far.

About my folks...they're in their 50's, my dad doesn't/won't play golf, and while they may gamble, it's definitely not THE reason for going. It's more of a go somewhere we've never been, relax, see some shows, type of trip.

That cirque du suleil(sp?) sounds like a pretty cool idea. I'll check into that as well.

AS far as the hotels, I'd like them to stay somewhere pretty nice, I'm thinking at least a 4-star, but preferably a 5.

Like said, stay somewhere central like the Bellagio, you will be doing ALOT of walking. For someone in their 50's I would suggest the Beatles show "Love" at the Mirage. Also take a cab to Fremont street at night, it's a whole different world down there. I've been to Vegas probably ten times and feel like I haven't seen it all yet.

Can't go wrong with Bellagio, Caesars, Wynn, or Mirage.

Have them see a Cirque Du Soleil show = Beatles LOVE at the Mirage, "O" at Bellagio, or the new Viva Elvis at ARIA.

If they are in good shape for walking, free pirate show at the Treasure Island, Sigfreid and Roys secret gardens at the Mirage - Lions, tigers, dolphins, etc, Ferrari dealer inside the Wynn, Free show inside Caesars, the Fountains of Bellagio, Flower garden at Bellagio, Imperial Palace Car collection, Eiffel Tower observation deck at Paris, Shark tank at Mandalay Bay..

High end shops to walk thru at the Wynn, Venetian/Pallazzo, Caesars, and Bellagio.

Food, take your pick from five star to buffets to small cafe/bistros. Its all there.

If you look at the map above, most of the newer hotel casinos are on the left side of the map, and the older ones are on the right, with the exception of Venetian and the Wynn.

MGM is one of the best hotels i've stayed in. MGM is on the strip and everything else is in walking distance.

I was severely underwhelmed at the quality of the MGM. The room had a tube TV and looked like it hadn't been updated since the mid 90s.

We were not in the new tower, and were just out there for a conference. I've stayed in nicer hotels in no-name towns for work before though at a much cheaper rate, especially considering the fact that we dropped a couple thousand at the casino in the hotel.

It was our first time out to Vegas and the walking was intense, definitely go to a place like the Bellagio or Caesars to avoid having to go from one end to the other. Palazzo was a very nice looking place to stay as well.

Tons of stuff to do, but definitely will not be high up on my list of places to return. Cool to experience it once.

We also took a ride out to the Hoover Dam. I'm a big geek so that was a highlight for me.

Watch SlickDeals like a hawk! Couple weeks ago they had flights/3 room stay for under $100 total. Best way to watch is go the main site and type Vegas into the search then start perusing: Slickdeals.net

Next time we go we are staying at Golden Nugget(downtown), place is awesome now!

Take a look at Southwest Airlines Vacations. I used them back in Jan and spent about 480 a person with flight and stayed at new york new york. The hotel was alright but we did get free tickets to the Beatles "Love" Cirque de Soleil show (About $150 a piece). Other hotels on Southwest Vacations also had free show ticket offers and free money for gambling with flight. I am planning on going back this Jan again but am not going through Southwest because I have some comp'd rooms at MGM because I did well last time in the casino. So it will only cost me a flight this time.

Check out the restaurant that butts up to the aquarium, the whole one side of the dining room is the actual aquarium. We had dinner there in September.

Hows the pricing? What a nice remodel they did there. The pool/bar/aquarium/water slide looks amazing plus they have cheap High Roller areas. The Suite isn't bad either, only like $200 during the week and $350 weekends. I think some buddies and I will be going for March Madness
