Has anyone dyno'd these combos? Is the Ram Air worth it over the stock tube with K and N? Just installed a Whipple 2.9. I like the stock look as it doesn't rub the strut tower like the C & L intake did. Have seen a bunch of others also rub the tower.

If you look on JLT's web page it lists the Dyno numbers your looking for. Not much difference on the two

Some will mix the FIPK with the JLT intake tube.

I couldn't find on JLT's website comparing the 2. Thanks for the reply.

Sorry but no dyno numbers here but I have run both rai. The gen 1 and the next gen. The gen 1 barely hit the strut tower the next gen clears it no problem. I mainly changed out the tube for looks.

When I had my eaton I ran the nexgen rai and never had any clearance issues. Loved the clean look of it. I'd switch it if you liked the looks, but dont plan on a big hp increase.

when its all said and done, you will not see anymore hp with the jlt ram air than the stock tube with a filter. I still run the original steeda with the stock intake tube and I make 710rwhp with my 2.9 on 22lbs AND MY CAR HAS bad cam timing from the factory, thus giving me low hp and tq numbers from every cobra mustang magic did. They nick named my car 20/20 bc its down 20 hp and 20 tq from every cobra with the same identical mods.

same thing with catbacks. some say brand x makes more hp than brand y. But when all the mods are combined, you just cant tell. They all eventually make the same power. Now if you had a 3.4 whipple and went from a stock intake to a huge crusher kit, yes. Thats a different story.

Not knocking JLT, they do make great kits, but I saw three cobras on the dyno that had the plastic intake ram air I think? engine bay got hot, intake tube got soft and it all loosened up. Not sure if I am explaining right byt you get the idea. bad batch maybe? all three owners said "I just tightened this up and its loose again and the tube feels weaker." like I said maybe bad batch???? But all three guys said the same thing??? First time I heard that in 12 years. I had a JLT but took it off. I like my stock intake tube.

the jlt kit is smooth inside and the stocker has ribs, gotta be better being smooth for the airflow.

You would think so, but apparently it makes little to no difference based on years of these type of threads as well as personal experience. I have run just about every combination of intake, blower and throttle body over the years on my car and found no noticeable difference from the stock tube, especially to be worth the hassle of rubbing the tower, coil cover, etc. I like the fact that the stock tube fits so well, and allows the engine to move without disrupting or rubbing anything. I've always ended up selling them all after awhile and going back to the stock. Just my $.02

I switched from the fender JLT to a stock tube and a massive filter and picked up 30 hp over the JLT as it became a restriction at my power level. Same day same dyno same tune and the stock tube run was on a hotter temp pull.

One other thought here is that dyno pulls are made with the hood open. We don't drive with the hoods open. I'd like to see #'s with the hoods closed to see if that makes a difference. I've never been too hung up on dyno numbers either. I'd rather get my results at the track.

That's good info and just one more reason to not bother messing with switching out the stock tube. Got a link to the filter you went with?

I bought a JLT RAI (gen1 was all that was out at the time), mainly because I thought the stock one was ugly. My strut tower lost a little paint from rubbing and it pisses me off but the deed is already done.

I have done back to back. K&N FIPK then JLT RAI and with like 10 min in between for the swap the car picked up 9rwhp from the K&N FIPK to the full RAI.

No idea on filter as it was laying in the shops parts bin and so was the stock tube, talk about free horse power. If you search my name and look in the forsale threads I sold the car (black 04 cobra) a few years back and the thread is picture heavy as well as a list of mods.

I personally like the JLT gen 2 stuff because it fits better than stock...yes you read that right it fits better than stock. The stock tubes like to lay on the pass coil cover and wear off the finish on it and the valve cover. The Gen 2 stuff gives plenty of clearance.

I have the True cold air kit, to me its the best of both worlds. The cold air from outside the engine bay and the stable maf signal of a conventional maf.
