I recently installed a IW balancer, the kit comes with a new crank seal. My car is low mileage and the factory seal looked fine so I didn’t put the new one in.
Should I have used it?

Guess you’ll find out lol

Even low mileage it’s still old… at this point run it and keep an eye on it, if it leaks you know what you gotta do

I believe you have to use the new seal. The diameter of the balancers are different requiring the use of the iw seal. Link to my install:

Yup, the seal is part of the heavy duty IW pulley kit.

Well I went to install the new seal for the IW balancer and it’s too big unless I’m an idiot and can’t install a seal correctly. Does anyone have a part number for the seal?

I do remember mine being real tight and tough to start, but I got it in. I got it started and used a block of wood to tap it in all the way. My timing cover was off the engine. I propped it up on 2x4’s so it was level then installed it. It will be tough to do in the car I would imagine.

You can also get them from IW themselves but their shipping is ridiculous for a seal. You want the Mod Motor seal. There's a specific one for the SD Hub. Mod Motor Super Duty Oil Seal #984 - Innovators West
