Like the title says

I was working on a post and the site freezes on me and I lost all the composition :cuss:

This is not the first time and it happening with increased frequency even on other sites. Even typing this post my keyboard inputs get interrupted by the constant streaming of advertisments across the page. Working on a long post is starting to get risky. AAAAAARRRRRGGGGGG!!!!!

I hate when that happens Russ. ive had multiple similar experiences and they all resulting in either giving up on the reply/post or a very short one.

I have started using "Ghostery" to stop all the ads from loading.

I just turned it off to see how much ad stuff would load when I refreshed the page. 79 separate trackers and other adware.

Here's what tried to load just now.

Every time each file is loaded the vendor earns .000134 cents. Why don't they just quadruple the number of cookies and make more money? Who cares if the site becomes unusable.

............and something tells me we are last in line for access to this site :nonono:

You discovered one of my all time favorite apps. I've been using Ghostery for a few months now. I found it while trying to figure out who my screen refreshes were taking so long. I was shocked at all of the ad/marketing/tracking stuff that was being loaded. And all of that stuff is like dragging around an anchor. So I found Ghostery, it sounded worth trying, and downloaded it. Wow. What a huge difference. Screen refreshes are so much faster. And I'm blocking about 95% of the ad/marketing/tracking stuff on every website I visit. I can't believe more people haven't started using it. Awesome and very useful app. The increased screen refresh performance alone is worth it.

I talked to our IT guy regarding Ghostery. He stated the blocking the spam files will prevent some of the web site content from displaying on the screen (it's the marketing guys way of preventing you from blocking their ads and tracking SW).

Did you notice any reduction in the content on the web site you do want to see?

No, 99% of the time no webpage content is affected. You can decide what you want to block, so scan through the list and turn off anything you don't want. For example, anything labeled 'Advertising' I block, as well as anything deemed related to Analytics or Social. If I see one that is labeled Video Player, I leave it because it likely will be needed to play video content on that site. But my experience so far as been NO website/webpage content affected. And I've been using Ghostery for many months now, and visit dozens of websites each day.

Thanks guys this sounds like a solution for smoothing web browsing which is getting to be a huge problem. This site is one of the better ones Try going to the Daily Caller which is weighed down with so much hanging chaffs the page has a 50/50 chance of locking-up (what is Carl Tuckerson thinking?). I'll let you know how well it worked of for me.

Use Ghostery and Adblock together. Between both of them you can literally eliminate every ad on all pages. In fact, on the right of this very page, everything under Advertisements is gone.
