I also agree with your assessment as well when speaking about modified 4.6s. so long as you don't go FI and keep the rpm under 7200, the 4.6s are pretty reliable, and bulletproof.

That doesn't sound good. All of the junk removed would go into the cylinders... if you have cats this can't be good. I think removing it is really the only acceptable way to clean it. Maybe I'm wrong.
