I've heard of it. With the right belt, a functioning tensioner and one or more auxiliary idler it really isn't needed. Toss a non-slip pulley into the mix and it is even less needed. It might, though, help in cases where people have a smaller upper (smaller than a 2.93) and don't want to use extra idlers. I thought their comments about an over-tight belt were interesting. I've seen a number of posts where the owner stated they installed a belt that was as tight as possible. Maybe that is not such a good thing.
