Many of you are familiar with DBK and Torrie with their twin turbo GTs. Well they've got new SHOs and they've been messing with them so I thought I'd post some updates over here on what they've done so far.
Pretty stoked to see what they can make with basic upgrades!
Edit: Just saw that some of this stuff has already been posted in other threads but whatever, here's the full up to date thread.
Just went and picked up the new Taurus. This thing rocks. It's quiet, it's roomy, it's got a massive trunk, it's got bitchin seats, it looks cool. I was driving back home and the car was giving me an ass massage. I said an ASS MASSAGE. It's got cruise control distance detectors, it's got this cool thing where a light goes on in your side mirrors if there is a car in your blind spot, rear view camera, killer nav. Basically, it's loaded with technology.
And obviously, this thing is fast. If the weather holds I want to take it to Milan tomorrow. Really accelerates good for passing and a big upgrade from the N.A 3.7 accelerating past 100. I anticipate this thing being a tune away from being a 12 second DD. The only thing that isn't as good in this car as the MKS (that I can tell in 40 miles) is the switchgear is definitely more plasticky. Seems like the brakes don't stop all that hard either but it's not a track car, it's a fast, comfortable, American sedan.
After screwing around, ran 0-60 in 5.4 a couple times and ran 14.0@100 mph. 81* out and the road is on a slight incline. Pumped about this for an AWD daily driver. Should be fast in a minute.
I haven't had a chance to go to the track yet, but I think it will run 13.40s-13.50s with just a tune.
More forums ?!? I'll post something eventually. The big improvement is that with the stock cal the car would do a best between 30-60 of 3.7. Now it's in the very low 3's. I figure that's a good gauge of passing power. If it will cut off .4-.5 all day from 30-60, I expect a similar improvement in the 1320. And keep in mind, this is WITHOUT changing the boost at all.
It's a really kick ass car. I guess some people will be disappointed because it's too "adult", but it's quiet, it's smooth and it hauls ass.
Tuned it.
No, seriously, the tune from Ford is EXTREMELY conservative. We're not trying to break any records or anything here, but let's say the time timing is beyond conservative. Like single digit conservative. There's some interesting stuff available to control in the computer, and there's all kinds of trans control in there.
My buddy Torrie at Unleashed Tuning is working his magic as a drive and datalog and email files back to him.
Torrie bought one too after messing with mine so he's already got a tune down.
The tune I had in it at the time was with stock boost, 11psi. Torrie has now figured out how to up it and has it at 15 psi. I believe he's on the dyno all day today with it.
I'm not real optimistic on the trans holding up to huge amounts of power so I'll leave that stuff to the crazies. I know he is working already on upgraded turbos and piping.
It is VERY easy to add power, either upping the boost or adjusting the timing. I think you will find 400+hp SHOs the norm. Great car.
Just to note, I'm told the gains on the dyno were 30WHP just from fuel/timing adjustments. That's over 400 hp for sure. Mucho respectable.
