Well I picked up a Jaguar XK8 1999 model convertible Friday and had
it for the week end. (Traded my Cobra for it) Well just in a weekend
of driving that Jag a multitude of issues developed.
I went back to the dealer this morning and discussed the problems with him
and he said there was nothing he could do to fix them. (A Caddy Dealer)
So I said I wanted to rescind the deal and take the Mustang back.
Well I almost fell over cause they agreed!
What a relief. Jaguars have a lot of problems with reliability and I learned my
lesson. I won't ever buy another one thats for sure.

This is why you buy cars with warranties.

If you don't mind my asking, what were the problems with the car?

Okay

This is why you buy cars with warranties.

If you don't mind my asking, what were the problems with the car?

"Stability Control fail" ABS, (ABS ECU cost about $1200 at dealers)
Pass seat switch pack (seat back wouldn't come up)
Pass window switch on drivers door inop.
Front end Needs work cause the camber on both sides was out.
One key and FOB, another key and fob $500 (yeah!!!)
Dealer tried to program key 20 times wouldn't take.
Drivers door, key won't open door!!
Ashtray door broken
Cup holders (a Joke) plus broken.
Convertible top latch Hydraulics hose leaking. a cost of $2000 to fix at
dealers.
This was a 2005 Jaguar XK8 Convertible. Only had 37000 miles on it.
Out of warranty. But dealer tried to sell me a warranty. You can't claim
on pre-existing problems.

I did love the looks and the ride of the car, but the reliability question and
feeling of confidence wasn't there...

Oh yeah remember these cars sell for almost $80K when new.

I have read nightmare stories about Jag dealers and warranty issues.

I guess I will stick with good ole american iron!!!

If those were recognized as existing problems why would you go through with it in the first place?

That is why ypu don't buy Jags before year 06 or 07. When they switched the XJ to an aluminum body car is when the whole brand's quality vastly improved! Before that they ran on the same old Jaguar reputation, but now they have some of the best quality of any of the luxury brands.

I would pick up a new XFR or XKR in a heartbeat if I had the cashflow of course.

Not sure if its the same everywhere but in Michigan, by law you can rescind a written agreement within 3 business days. My sister bought a mustang and put down a large down payment. She decided she didn't want it two days later, turned the car in and canceled the check.
