How much boost are people really running on a stock motor with a TVS or Whipple? Not just a glory hit but on a regular basis. Want to turn my Whipple up a bit.

I understand a good tune is the key.

If been running 10 and creeps to 11-12 on a long pull for over a year with no trouble. But just added a custom lower on my ati damper and think it'll be up to 14. I know it won't last for long that way, but I hear of people running low 10's and the high 9 glory pass. They can't be doing that on 10 psi can they?

I'm seeing around 11 peak with a 82mm pulley and open air box. No problems yet but I am going to an Aluminator so I can safely crank it up.

Thanks, I have almost all the parts to build the motor. After the NMRA race in KY I'll have time to do it. Hoping with a Conservative tune it'll make the race ok.

Who tunes your car?

Our car will run a mid-low 10 all day long on 10psi....with 93 octane.

I think most people running low 10's, high 9's...are on good gas and 11-12psi.

We ran 10.1@137 with 11psi and a very conservative tune.

Must be a lightweight car? What's your race weight? Does it have a rollbar? Just curious? I still get a butt chewing once in awhile for no bar...

It is typically in the 3750lb range with driver. No roll bar. We run the car in NMRA (for 4 years now) and have not been told to put a roll bar in the car.

I've got hundreds of slips to dig through, but here is a pass with 11psi and a mix of 93 and RG, with peak timing at 18degrees.

This is also with very low timing on the "hit". Like, 10 degrees low.

That's impressive!

Was that on a 75mm pulley?

^ It was.

It has gone string of 10.50's with the 82mm, and 93 with 14 degrees of timing.

I think the 82mm, with E85, and it would be right back down into the low 10's, high 9's in good weather. These cars with the TVS run HARD on corn.

With the 82mm pulley and JLT I've seen the highest of 10.9 PSI.

Now with 79mm I haven't had a chance to look at it. I'm guessing 11.5-11.9?

I hear what your saying Kelly but that car at the 2 NMRA races i was at was only going 10:50's if I recall. I'm in the same class. I know my 2.9 Whipple is lazy on low boost compared to a TVS.

I'm sure my tuning is off some but I've only been 10:78 @ 128 with 1:50's on the 60'

Yes, it runs 10.50's - 10.70's in NMRA trim. Our ET's flucuate based on how deep we stage, weather, weight, tune, etc.

Put it this way. We went 10.64 last year at Milan.....then, the next pass with only 2 degrees more timing, went 10.43 on the brakes. We only run 14 degrees timing when racing NMRA, and we deep stage. Those two things alone are worth "up to" half a second, alone.

We have only tried to go "fast" one time, and we went low 10's. Remember, the faster you go - the harder it is to stay consistent on combos like ours.

IMO, if you are seeing the boost you are, you should be in the 10.40 range, at least.

Gotcha. I think the big blowers is lazy at lower boost levels. I can see the staging being worth a coue tenths, but 4-5 seems tough to me. Not to mention its 9-10 mph more than me. I go 128 pretty repetitively.
My convertor is only 2800 as well per circle D.

I'm working on a new tuner, I hope that puts me closer to everyone else.

I think I'll back the boost down again until I get the motor finished . Seems 14-15 will probly kill it.
