I would also be looking at the overall condition of the car. My decision would then be more based on overall condition than mileage.

This I agree with. Miles are important, but overall condition is the most important. If I had to chose between two 50k mile cars, one that needed paint and one that needed an engine, but had pristine paint, I'm taking the one that needs an engine.
